Should I Say Something
|
|
So while at Tinley Park two weekends ago, I picked up a jungle/coastal carpet python from LLL Reptiles and it has mites, I mean i get they are a wholesaler and everything but i guess im wondering if I should say something to them or just let it go. Opinions/Similar Situations?

I would, because that should be addressed. Perhaps they're not examining the animals throughly? Cleaning the cages? Or maybe they "just didn't know" that one had mites. They could have other snakes with mites too, who knows.

always tell them, even if it changes nothing.
and always treat new acquisitions, even if you see nothing - I don't go to an outreach with PAM'ing my pillowcases and transport tubs. my babies might pick a mite or two up, but they're sure not bringing any home.

We've had so many friends have bad experiences with LLL, first one a friend who bought a "irian jaya" carpet python and when I saw it I could tell right away it was a coastal, second time was another friend bought a albino and a normal reticulated python from them and both were covered in mites. I also see dying/starving animals when we go and many times hatchlings MAYBE a week old. When we say anything the workers go "they are fine" and when asking about a morph I just get dumb looks.

I'm Not suprised at all ,they are pretty much Flippers .. It cant hurt to call and say something , but it wont change a thing .. Just make sure you get some Provent A Mite and protect your collection

I agree with everyone else that you should at tell them. If you decide not to, then at the very least, never forget this experience and be more cautious the next time you make a purchase from them. They're better known to be great for supplies as opposed to their animals.

Heck yeah you should say something! I believe in supporting the breeders but sometimes that's hard to do. When you do buy from retailers, I think it's the customer service that sets each business apart. If they right the wrong then they're good, but if they don't then you should let folks out there know to watch out for those guys-like leaving a bad guy review on the BOI or whatever. Take the bad guys out of business, support the good guys!

Like Mike said, they're basically "flippers".. I don't trust anything really that comes from them aside from the occasional desperate need for snake bags. That's it. Sadly, I just read the Reptiles Magazine article on them today. Treat your new little guy and protect the rest of your collection. You can definitely say something if you want, just not sure how much good it will do :( Maybe free prevent-a-mite or something?

Definitely say something, but don't expect any more than a half-hearted "sorry". Their terms of service do say, "LLLReptile & Supply guarantees our animals to be alive, healthy, and to your satisfaction upon arrival, and for 3 days after arrival (amphibians are a live arrival only guarantee)." However, I'm not sure if this would be applicable to animals purchased at shows. Either way, your three days have long since passed.
Regardless, it's your responsibility as a buyer to inform the seller that there are mites in their stock. What the seller does with that information is up to them.

Supplies fine, animals no real experience but have only heard negative things. Probably a waste of time informing them.

Unless the animal was labelled "Jungle/Coastal +Free Mites" you should ABSOLUTELY say something.
They may not have known it, they may not care about it, but saying nothing accomplishes, .. well... nothing.

I've bought from them and ended up with mites. I called and told them, but they just blew me off. I know they know, everyone talks about it, but they still bring these animals to the shows.
Most of the animals they have are WC as well, so be careful buying from them. My viper boa is still doing fine, but the White lip that was purchased from them passed away. I don't plan on buying from LLL again.

Yes say something, LLL Reptiles is a wholesale flipper, but they need to be aware if their animals have any health issues. I don't usually buy from wholesalers for that reason.
+1 Aaron, lol

Thanks Everybody for the answers, I will be emailing them tomorrow and I would have much rather bought from a breeder but LLL was the only one with an adult male carpet but i am kind of regretting the decision to buy from them, but I still like the little guy he's eating well and no other signs of bad health but i noticed he was soaking a lot and not about to go into shed so i figured mites were the case but i have treated both his cage with prevent-a-mite and the rest of my snakes.
