Q: Ball Python quit eating
Posted By:

Okay guys and gals my Ball Python has refused his/her last 4 meals.  This is way out of character for him/her.  I've always referred to the snake as a her, I know I need to have her sexed.  She's about 5 years old and has never missed a meal.  Nothing has changed in her environment.  Shes not been handled more than normal.  Any ideas?

are you 100% sure nothing has changed in his/her environment? I'm asking this because my UTH started overheating a couple days ago and my accu-rites were no longer working. My KSB female had never missed a meal or been overtly aggressive, and she bit me and went off feed. I got my temp gun a few days later and OMG no wonder she was freaking out.

Other causes could be maybe she is getting ready to shed? i've never had a female BP but my male goes off feed all the time :) Hes picky lol.

If  you arent planning on breeding him/her, its probably not totally necessary to sex it, but it could help explain fasts when they happen. I only have one bp, and i'm taking his gender on faith because i'm never going to breed him.

It May just be  being a ball python,  they are infamous  for hunger strikes ..  Triple check your husbandry  and give it time

Agreed with the above comments my ball python goes off feed for a while at times too. They can definitally be picky eaters. Have you tried different food choices maybe f/t or  a live fresh kill.??

I agree with what has been so far, double check your husbandry.  If nothing has changed you can assume it's just being a ball python, there have been cases of them fasting for over a year, just make sure she doesn't start losing a lot of weight.

Thanks for the reassurance guys.  She just shed prior to going off feed.  But I will give her time.  I triple checked the husbandry, and all is spot on.  So we will see.  Thanks again.
