Q: Leopard gecko eye problem

In Relation To:

I've had my little Mack Super Snow gecko for about three months. She's about six months old.

When I got her, both her eyes were normal as you'd expect of a leopard gecko.

Around 11/18 I started to notice her right eye looked 'odd', and she seemed to have trouble opening it, like it was sealed shut.  I took her to the vet and he flushed it out, saying it could have just been something irritating it or just 'eye gunk' that she was unable to clear out herself.

So for the next few days I rinsed her eye daily with sterile saline solution, but it wasn't getting better- in fact it seemed worse AND her left eye started getting 'gunky' and odd as well. So I took her back to the vet this weekend. (He's a good exotics vet and seems to know his stuff)

He's still kinda at a loss though as to what's wrong. He suggested a lot of different problems- including that it could be a genetic problem that's only showing now. Or it could be blocked tear ducts, or an infection... Yeah it's really hard to tell what it is.

He did give me some eye drops for her that have antibiotics and steroids in case it's an inflammation. I just started using them on her so there hasn't been enough time to see if they help.

Otherwise I have to rinse her eyes daily with saline, otherwise they stay 'gunked up' and closed. Thankfully she's pretty chill about it...

So, anyone ever seen anything like this? Is this common in this morph of gecko? Is there anything else I could do for her?

She's in a tank alone, on paper towels. She eats only silkworms because she has trouble with crickets. (I half suspect that a cricket's leg poking her eye could have been the cause of it, but it's just a guess).

Ack, hit send too soon. The picture is actually a bit old and her right eye looks way worse now- her eyelids are pretty much plastered down over the eye and it's visibly gunky. I'll try to get a photo of it.

to be honest ive seen the problem before and referred people to the vet, and from what ive heard it usually seems to clear up with treatment. i wont lie as far as ive experienced, ive never had very good luck with designer leopards, numerous problems and i eventually just gave up keeping them...i dont want to deter you...keep at it and im sure hell be fine

Uh, nevermind then. Her eye is magically back to normal today, I expect it was shedding related.
