Is that the only hide available in her enclosure? That could be why she's hiding under there.

Hiding. I have some that do that even when there are several other hides in the cage.

Water dishes that are open underneath them by far are the first choice in hides for my juvenile to sub-adult snakes.

Yep, they like the weight - it makes them feel secure. Any one of my snakes will wedge itself under a full water bowl if at all possible instead of using a traditional hide.

My ball python Quepie does that constantly, and he has about 10 good sized hides and over 15 smaller ones in his 55 gallon tank. However nothing we do deters him from sleeping under his waterbowl instead of in a nice and expensive hide so we can see him. It feels safe and comfortable to them, but I understand the frustration of therefore never being able to SEE your pretty snake.
So we fix the problem by placing a very heavy (pre-sanitized by boiling in water) in the middle of the water bowl to weight it down, so he can't get under it. It works and then he uses the hides we fixed for his him happily and we can still see him :) Hope that helps!!

I have five cali kings and they love to burrow and hide under things, However , she could be seeking the underside of the bowl for cooler temps.
How warm is her ambient temps and her hot spot? Cali's are from temperate climates and need slightly cooler temps then pythons and boas. Mid 70s is perfect for their ambient temps, and will actually help prolong their life.
There are a few good articles floating around online about metobolic age and health.
Hope this helps!!

thanks everyone. Yes she is eating ok still and coming out on the odd occassion on her own. So you've all re-assured me. She burrows under the water bowl and likes to sleep there. As you say, must be the cooler part. She has a snake rock hide thingy, a tree, branch hide thingy and an empty toilet roll to hide in. She used to love staying in the tree but its now the water bowl. Thankyou again folks xxx
