Hello,
I am designing a new enclosure for my irian jaya carpet python and cannot really visualize what I want the inside to look like in terms of color/pattern. I was considering a faux woodgrain paint but I'm having some trouble with that and wondering what some other people have done to make their enclosure attractive on the inside. I'll have branches and a shelf siliconed in shortly, and that's all picked out, I'm mostly wondering what makes a good background.
The enclosure if 2x4x4 so I've got a lot of space to cover.

Get some different colored paper - like white, black, and a shade of brown, maybe a gray, etc. and put it as a background in the cage she's in, just to see which color you think she looks good against and / or which one lets you see her better. I have black, gray and white cages, and I know there are some animals that I definitely like better in one color than another.

I know it's made for aquariums but that background stuff you can get is great for vivs too. It's pretty thick and it's plastci which makes it easy to clean. There are designs that are not just "fishy" like jungle and desert.

For glass enclosures, I've used: colored paper, fancy rice paper, decorative window films (my current fave), aquarium backgrounds and pieces I've painted myself. For plastic enclosures where I have to mount the background on the inside, I use aquarium backgrounds. Like Shellboa said, they've got some decent jungle-y ones. And an awesome dinosaur one. The DIY faux rock backgrounds made of foam and concrete/grout are pretty cool, too, and can be very fun to build.

ATM I'm painting the back, I did take a look at the DIY faux backgrounds and I may do that. Has anyone used glow in the dark paint in a viv before?
For the Doctor Who fans the outside of the viv looks like a tardis, and I was considering painting on her name in gallifreyan in glow in the dark paint so you can only see it at night.
For the non - doctor who fans - I'd be painting glow in the dark circles on the back.
I cannot find anything in the glow in the dark paint that seems unsafe once dry, but figured I'd check

FANTASTIC! A Tardis outside is an amazing idea. Can you stick with a Dr. Who theme on the inside too!? Dear lord - make a K9 hide!!! And sonic screwdriver perches! Are you doing the inside all bronzey-brown with circles? How will you make the inside larger than the outside though?
