Q:

what is the size of a year old jungle carpet python???
|
|
I just purchased a jungle carpet python 2 days ago from the Reptile expo in Reading, PA. The breeder told me he is a yearling...I'm assuming this means hes a year old, he is right around 2 ft...I havent gotten an accurate measure becasue he is still settling in to his new home, but I thought Jungle Carpet Python were bigger than that at 1 year old. I was also wondering if he should be feeding on mice or rat pinkies...I have fed him a mouse pinky and he ate it no problem but I would like to eventually feed him rats when hes bigger because it is more convienent for me. Another question about the feeding is should he be feeding on hoppers, or small mice if he is actually one year old and around 2 feet? His body is about as thick as a quarter. Can somebody please clarify this? This is my first python I have owned.

They are quite tiny when they are born. Can you get a weight on him?
At approx. a year old, I was in the process of bumping up from rat pinkies to rat fuzzies.

I have a coastal female that is only a few months old and is already around 27 inches and as big around as my pinky. Jungles are smaller than the coastals so that may be about right. I base the size of the prey according to the diameter of the snake. I give my girl pinkies that are slightly thicker than her and I give her 3 a week and still she acts like she wants more. They are little pigs lol. Hope this helps.
