Q: My snake smells like pee - will bathing her in lukewarm water help?

Hello everyone!  I have a madagascar ground boa, and last night when I held her, I noticed that she really smells like pee.  I am guessing she crawled through it before I could get her paper changed.  I use doggie potty pads rather than substrate (I think the substrate is how she got mites, so I just don't use that anymore).  She is a wonderful girl - about 4.5 feet long and has been healthy except for a mild case of mites (which has been resolved for months).

My plan is to put her in a couple of inches of lukewarm water in the bathtub and let her soak, but I have never done this.  I am super paranoid about somehow harming her, so I just want to be sure this is a good idea.

Any advice regarding this issue?  Should I go back to using substrate (or is the risk of mites too great)?  Thank you!

I would just wet a towel with warm water (a little warmer than room temp) and let your snake slither through the towel. Maybe rub her down with the towel a bit.  I wouldn't stress her out with a bath, not many snakes enjoy a bath and the water temp has to be just right for them to tolerate it.

There'd be no issue putting her in a tub with a couple inches of water to soak for awhile. I routinely do such to help with a retained shed or to clean them after they have crawled through something. Clear plastic storage bins with covers work great. I just add some air holes.

I choose to use newspaper for substrate. You could try that.

Wiping them down with a cloth soaked in tepid water shouldn't cause any issues - I do that to mine when/if they slither through something distasteful.  It's probably more effective than a soak in some respects.
