Q: My gecko died on Saturday, why?

Has anyone ever had  a gecko die while eating exclusively a Repashy diet? My little guy was 6 years,2 months and 17 days old. He had been eating only Repashy for more than 3 years. He stopped eating last Sunday and he died on Saturday. I haven't gone in to work since he died. I'm a total fucking mess.

First of all, I'm very sorry for your loss. Pets are beloved members of our families and their passing is never easy.

If your gecko was a leopard gecko (Eublepharis macularius), the lifespan is six to ten years (http://www.reptilesmagazine.com/Care-Sheets/Lizards/Leopard-Gecko/) and it is possible this was the end of his well cared for journey.

I don't personally feed Repashy, but without any physical symptoms over the past three years, it's hard to imagine that was the cause.

I hope you can find closure and remember the good times you had with him, but it takes time and grief just flatly sucks. Be kind to yourself during this tough time.

Have you considered having a necropsy done?

Necropsy if you are concerned. Animals, just like us, can have traumatic issues like cancer or other diseases develop suddenly. I had this happen with a crested gecko last year, she was only a year and a few months of age. She never even stopped eating-- I just went down to feed and mist and she was dead. Had been fine the day before.
