For short periods of time once a snake is settled in and eating regularly, I don't see why not. However, I'd be sure you have Provent-a-mite for prevention (exactly as directed, in the enclosure), and only short periods if the weather calls for it. It does nothing for the snake, but it's nice to take them out and get some pictures in the sun :)

I guess It's Ok  I just cant  get myself to put  one of my snakes on the ground  or in a bush  after  being so Anal about keeping my cages clean  and  disenfecting everything  and Quarantine  and stuff .. But I'm sure  i'm a bit  of a snake worrie wart

I just hold Banana when I take her outside.  She plays and roams on me - I pretend to be a tree for her.  That way I know she's still enjoying the sunshine, just not touching anything that could be harmful to her.

Raising them in the sterility that we do isn't helping their immune systems.

I say take your critter outside... sun, good exercise... nothin wrong with that!

Plus, soaking up natural sunlight is really good for them.  I've been bringing all of my geckos outdoors (only a couple at a time ;)) to get some pretty pictures and let them enjoy the natural light.  They seem to really enjoy it!  Just be mindful of where they are, where they go and as stated above, provent-a-mite their cages (ventilate before adding your animal back) as a good backup just-in-case.  :)

I'm with Aaron.  to say "the snake gets nothing" is kind of oversimplified. it's something different, and stimulation is always good for health. I QT like a MF and I use PAM like it's going out of style, but I also think it's good to get the babies out on nice warm days and let them explore a bit.

if I had more native snakes or other herps in my neighborhood I'd worry more about health risks, tho.

I think it's fine.  As long as the animal is already established and healthy.  I actually keep a bottle of nix solution around (The same dilution as for mite treatments), and I will spray off trees and  bushes before putting the snake on there.  I suppose it will kill of any insects, but at least it knocks back anything getting on the snake.

Like Emily, mine only go outside on me.  I don't want them getting mites or anything else for that fact since they don't have immune systems and stuff like that..  The sun is good for them... but most the time they get window time.

I have a 4 foot retic and she loves going outside for some exercise and climbing the balcony Ive only had mites once in my snake collection but it was from a baby ball python that never went outside

I have never had any issues with taking mine outside. They love the sun and to explore the outdoors- think of all the smells and feels that they don't experience otherwise inside. Never any bugs, or illness.. unfortunately the good weather only happens about 5 months out of the year.

of couse they do,... but we're not taxing them and making them "learn" in sterile environments.
