VERY OT: Practice

Posted by Emily Milton at 5/16/2012 1:50:40 PM

Pictures have vexed me since day one of doing blogs.  And it's been a while since I've done a blog, so it is now time.  I couldn't post pictures the right way, nor could I separate them, nor could I put text between pictures.  Therefore, I felt practice was needed.  So that's what I did, and I think I got it right.

I hope you have fun laughing at the pictures I chose.  Besides, I think I may have figured it out!

This is a mini-quiche, I think I'm making some tonight:

This is not a quiche, but a wombat:

This is when I fell out of a wheelbarrow:

And this is Banana:

I hope that worked.

Question for you... have you managed to get back on the wheelbarrow yet?

Emily Milton,
Posted At: 5/16/2012 2:06:50 PM

I got there eventually ;)  That night the Hubby and I had built a table, planted 40 vegetable plants and built a firepit for my parents - at the end I was feeling silly.

I halfway blame this blog on you, and halfway on the other Sonja - you guys have GREAT picture blogs!  I could never figure out how to do it, so I practiced.  Thanks for indirectly making me learn how to!

HaHaHaHaHa!!!!!!  I love your pics!!!!!!  And I am hungry, send me some quiche please, they look YUMMY!!!!  Hint...if ya like to sit in a wheelbarrow, get one of those that has the little leg prop things on the back so ya don't hurt yourself...lol  However, this one did create a hilarious pic...thanks for the laugh

Emily Milton,

I'll fax you one tonight.  I have a lot of eggs and spinach, and that was the first thing I thought of to cook this evening.  Of course I'll be adding more veggies than that!

Thank you, Rick.

And to continue with the musical awesomeness theme, I will practice more:

This made me laugh today.

Ooooooo...real home made quiche...not frozen!   Recipie please?!!!!!

Sonja K. ,
Posted At: 5/16/2012 3:21:01 PM

Are we gonna have a real men vs quiche debate?

Emily Milton,
Posted At: 5/16/2012 3:23:14 PM

Sure!  Let's just make this blog even MORE off topic than before =D

I'm one of those freaky vegetarian people who don't believe in prepackaged food and everything I make is from scratch, LOL - but I will so happily share!

Emily Milton,
Posted At: 5/16/2012 3:26:03 PM

The damn recipe didn't show up!  Take 2:

8 eggs

1/4 cup cream
1 pack of spinach, frozen (REALLY get the water out)
More garlic than is safe or reasonable
Whatever spices you want: curry, cumin, chili powder,
Salt and Pepper to taste all you like
If you want to, finely dice up other veggies!  Portobello mushrooms, tomatoes, whatever really - it's easy to change the recipe how you like it.

Preheat oven to 425. Mix together eggs, cream, garlic, spices and salt. Add spinach. Grease mini muffin tins. Fill with egg/spinach mixture about 2/3 of the way to the top.

Bake for 25-30 minutes or until set.

Lisa ,
Posted At: 5/16/2012 3:41:21 PM

Thanks!  This will be my dinner tomorrow!

And I don't like pre-packaged food either.  But ya  know, ya go to a baby shower or bridal shower and they serve the Sam's Club quiche and other appetizers....

I am a from scratch, kind of person.  And my grandmother would rise from her grave and chase me if I ever served a sauce or gravy from a jar...lol   K...how much further can we go off OT?  LOL

Michael ,
Posted At: 5/16/2012 3:44:36 PM

What the heck where you doing in a wheel barrow ?

Emily Milton,
Posted At: 5/16/2012 3:45:07 PM

I should clarify the above recipe.  The spinach should be purchased frozen, but not stuffed into the tins frozen.  Defrost and DRAIN!

How much more OT.. Hmmm.... I LOVE clients getting a divorce - and just a divorce.  Why?  They are THE HAPPIEST people on earth.  Some of them hug me.  They make my day and are always so happy.  The custody people?  Not so much.........

Emily Milton,
Posted At: 5/16/2012 3:46:17 PM

@Michael:

I'd been working all day.  During the course of that day I had also been consuming frosty adult beverages.  At the end of a very long day, standing in a wheelbarrow seemed to be a good idea - just not sitting down.

Lisa ,
Posted At: 5/16/2012 3:49:19 PM

Glad you clarified.  I was gona just cut the frozen spinach in cubes and place in the tins!  lol  You are funny!  I am sitting here laughing my butt off!  My students are wondering what is wrong with me, I am sure!!!!!!

Sonja ,
Posted At: 5/16/2012 5:20:31 PM

Mmmmm, the quiche looks yummy!  I, too, am a vegetarian, but I hate to cook.  So, I eat pretty much only pre-made food, or carry out.  Maybe you could cook for me, too.

Kylie (Gargoyle Queen Reptiles),

I heard that a monkey in a tree is a sign of bad luck.... Make sure to keep your arms and legs contained and safe at all times.... Or else the monkey will get em.  Oh, and watch out for your hat, glasses, camera, and anything else you may have on your person.

Emily Milton,
Posted At: 5/16/2012 6:28:28 PM

@Sonja and Lisa -- I will fax you BOTH a quiche.

@Kylie -- I do NOT like monkeys - so ANY monkey - in a tree or not - is bad luck.  I think I feel the same way about monkeys as Nate does about ducks.

I have to apologize though - I thought I had frozen spinach - I do not, it's broccoli - so I'll fax a broccoli quiche.  For those cooking, amend the recipe - or keep the spinach if you have it available.

Sonja ,
Posted At: 5/16/2012 6:33:18 PM

Broccoli works for me.  We'll have spinach another day.

Tiki108,

I want that wombat!  And the quiche!

I saw that Meat Loaf thing earlier and burst out laughing, I believe George Takei posted it yes?

Lauren ,
Posted At: 5/16/2012 9:10:59 PM

Does the recipe still work for another type of pan? I don't have a muffin pan... :(  Wombats are awesome. I've held one before:

Emily Milton,
Posted At: 5/16/2012 9:21:59 PM

@Lauren:  Oh my SWEET LORD - You've held a Wombat.  Aaron - give this woman 5 million iHerp points.  I have a slight obsession with them.  I love wombats!!!!!!!

As for the recipe - yes, it will work with any pan - I do advise non-stick.  And even then, spray the hell out of it with Pam.  Remember, the larger the surface area, the longer the cooking time, so adjust accordingly - the edges will be a nice brown.  You could also make a fritatta with the same ingredients.

Pope of iHerp and Bread,
Posted At: 5/16/2012 9:35:30 PM

Since I have an overwhelming need for things to be about AND I'm pretty damn proud right now AND this is a herp site above all else, I give you 18 corn snakes.

ps- ducks suck

Pope of iHerp and Bread,
Posted At: 5/16/2012 9:36:41 PM

for things to be about me*

And since I'm here, again, that wombat in Lauren's arms is pretty awesome. He looks like he needs coffee. Evil coffee.

Emily Milton,
Posted At: 5/16/2012 9:39:05 PM

STUNNING!  Love them!

To continue the feeling and sentiment of Nate - monkeys suck.

Lauren ,
Posted At: 5/16/2012 10:35:33 PM

Haha, I could go for some iherp points for holding a wombat!

I do have to disagree, monkeys are cool. Even the pissed off mean ones are cool in their own grumpy-old-man sort of way. Some are rather cute too... I've worked with cynos and rhesus macaques, and had some interactions with marmosets as well as capuchins in Costa Rica this year. (the caps are not at all cute though... cynos and marmosets, yes)

Tiki108,
Posted At: 5/16/2012 10:38:35 PM

Lauren, that is beyond awesome!

Michael ,
Posted At: 5/16/2012 11:41:47 PM

Lauren go to walmart and get a muffin pan there 8 bucks !!   Than you can make Muffins  too ! I never held a whombat  but I fondled a kangaroo ...

Tiki108,
Posted At: 5/16/2012 11:52:06 PM

I have not had the pleasure of playing with these critters, but Jan did get to feed a kangaroo when he was back in Australia.  I could have sworn I had one with his face in it, but I can't find it right now, oh well.

Lauren ,
Posted At: 5/17/2012 8:18:48 AM

Well I guess I'm lazy! :p

I've cuddled many kangaroos..

and koalas..

AND played with native carpet pythons in Australia. So nyah!

Emily Milton,
Posted At: 5/17/2012 10:21:49 AM

LOVE LOVE LOVE the pictures!  I have not fondled a kangaroo, but I suppose I should put that on my bucket list.

The quiche was amazing!!  I tried to fax some to you guys, but it kept getting stuck.  /sad

Lisa ,
Posted At: 5/17/2012 11:48:05 AM

@ Emm   That is what the squishy stuff was in the fax...hehe  I plan on making some tonight.  I just did not have it in me to enter wal-mart after work yesterday, it was best for everyone.  lol

I love the pics....I wana play too! They are so cute!

And Emm...Monkeys are cute...There is a place here, Chimp Haven, that takes these poor babies in after they have spent their lives being poked at and squished in a little cage after a day in a testing lab.....Anyway,  here they get to be as close to free as they can get without just being let go.  They are sooo cute and funny!  check out the web site.  There are pics and bio of newest members, you can see such "personality" in their cute little faces!   It is the place that Bob Barker is a major funds provider for, keeping it open is a priority for him.  I am going to go there so I can watch them play for a while....lol

Aaron Florian,
Posted At: 5/17/2012 5:13:58 PM

I love the randomness in this thread.

>> Aaron - give this woman 5 million iHerp points
That would require 5 iherp tattoos. And I can make that happen.

Hana's cutie, Elmo. He's very sweet :)

Pope of iHerp and Bread,
Posted At: 5/17/2012 5:15:26 PM

Don't let Aaron trick you. The points aren't permanent.

When did Hana get a second primate?

Aaron Florian,
Posted At: 5/17/2012 5:32:00 PM

nate, you're going to be a millionaire next version of iHerp, so you might want to shut your cakehole.

she got elmo 15 years ago, and me 4 years ago. :)

Pope of iHerp and Bread,
Posted At: 5/17/2012 5:42:08 PM

Millionaire, trillionaire... I think I have 50$ to my name right name.

ALL I NEED IS YOU! And Toby. Or, you know, just Toby.

Aaron Florian,
Posted At: 5/17/2012 10:51:09 PM

I forgot .. pictures of me are threadkillers

CRAP!

Sonja K. ,
Posted At: 5/18/2012 9:54:14 AM

Fun pics Michael and Lauren!

HaHa Aaron! I won't let it die!

Since I am not too familiar with primates, what kind is Elmo? He does look very sweet!

Lauren ,
Posted At: 5/18/2012 11:04:19 AM

It died cause it's no longer on the front page... ;)  Looks like a black capuchin maybe, but I'm not sure. I'd be interested in seeing more Elmo pics!

Emily Milton,
Posted At: 5/18/2012 2:51:04 PM

You are very brave to hold the primate.  I would not like to hold the primate.  Just tell Elmo I said hi.
