stupid poeple on CL... below is the text of their ad... I just sent a messsage saying I'll take the beardie today if they still have it, n questins asked...  What animals doesn't f-ing drink?!!??!!  Even the wife said to take him...

"Free to good home, bearded dragon named Griz. We're moving and can't have him at the new place. His eating habits are 80% vegetables and 20% live crickets, he has very good sleeping patterns (his tank has a light with a timer on it). Care is like super minimal. You have to change the sand out once in awhile. Scoop poop when it poops which can range from a couple times a week to once every couple weeks. You don't even have to give it water, he doesn't drink. You don't have to play with him, but he doesn't mind being held at all. He doesn't bite or scratch. He does have sharp teeth and claws but he is very gentle to people. Text me at .... if you're interested."

One of the most appropriate subject lines I've ever seen - because that's the first thing I thought of too.

When/If you take the dragon, could you please bitch slap him for me?  Thanks.

WTF???  That poor thing, I can't think of an animal that doesn't drink, I'm sure there is one, but I can't think of it!

CL also had ads for a bunch f fun stuff, including a redfoot (which is on my wish list), but we simply don't have the space right now for a tortoise enclosure... And anyone local to CT looking for burms, some guy has an albino & a normal (?) up for "adoption"... ugh...  So many peple wanting to get rid of their cuties (fuzzies, feathered, scaled & skin) these days.  I need my own zoo and unlimited funds!!

That's awful. It's a wonder the animal isn't half-dead. What's worse to think about is that people like this also may have children. Scary thought.

pet stores have been telling people a lot of different reptiles dont drink. I just look at peopple when i hear that, and just say "really?"

it's weird because the cutest thing I've ever see a reptile do is drink.

@Era -- I am in complete agreement.

I know beardies don't drink MUCH, but they do require water, even with a properly water-ladened diet... at least his tank looked big enough and he had the right idea with the ratio of feeding more salad then bugs.  I still havn't heard back from the person.  Hopeing I hear back from him(?) soon...

Aaron Florian,

find out if they have water for it.... i'd be interested if he's getting enough from the foods.

"don't drink" =
a.) no water in the cage so it can't drink
b.) i never see it drink, so it doesn't drink
???

I will if I ever hear back from the person.

I was cruising through CL ads last night, due to morbid curiosity... and I found about 5 ads for ball pythons. One had a male and female cohabitating, another had pictures of one snake whose ENTIRE cage (it was a short vertical cage) full of pieces of shed and it had stuck shed all over its body, and another that said that he fed his snake every 2-6 weeks. -_- I will never look at those ads ever...

Gladys,

What's wrong exactly with feeding a BP every 2-6 weeks? I only feed mine once a month.

http://www.lynnsbeardeddragons.com/caresheet.html

"As far as water goes, remember bearded dragons are from the desert area and do not require a lot of water. Mist your dragon under the basking area in the morning. Make sure the sand is dried out by night, we do not want the dragon to sleep on wet sand. Remove all crickets from the cage by night. In the desert, dragons get their water from food and the small amount of dew that forms on them while they are sleeping. Remember that dragons need to be fed daily, just like us."

Not drinking is not outside the realm of possability. My viper geckos never had a water dish.

I still have not heard back, so I'm guessing that the dragon is no longer available, or I pissed the person off... Like I said, I know dragons don't drink a lot, or even all that often, but they need to be soaked at least once a week, and need to have an adequately water-ladened diet...

Taylor ,

My dragon never drinks water. Not when soaking, not the few times I tried having a water dish in his enclosure, never. Haven't seen him actually, physically drink water since I first got him (as a very dehydrated rescue), 3 years ago. In his case, he only drinks water when he REALLY needs it... On the contrary, I previously owned two female dragons who both would readily drink while soaking or if you misted their head. It really depends on your dragon, but, no, a lot of dragons don't really drink water.

That doesn't mean I'm not upset by the ad. They may not drink, but they still require regular soakings, or at least some measure to get water into them, like misting their greens. Contrary to that, this ad makes it sound as though they never need any supplemental water, ever. No soakings, no water dish, no occasional mist, nothing. People are stupid. Even if that's not what the guy meant, that's what the idiot who takes it home because "oh, cool, free lizard! What a cool, easy pet!" and doesn't even consider learning more will assume he meant.

Furthermore, their care isn't, like, super minimal, and a dragon only pooping every couple weeks or so probably isn't in the best of health. (It also just plain makes me queasy when they say something as vague as "his tank has a light." Doesn't tell us if they have any sort of UVB lighting, or even a basking spot. Could be a CFL from the grocery store for all we know!)

Ever hear back from these people? I am curious what kind of condition the beardie is in...
