Gecko rescue update (yes, again. I'm totally in love with this guy)

Posted by Courtney Almen at 5/25/2013 5:58:31 PM

This is the little dude today:

Versus the beginning of the month, and when I got him (because progress shots are cool):

He's shed twice now, I was really surprised when he shed 2 weeks after his last one, but he's been doing a lot of filling out.

He's up to 15 mealworms a day currently. Is that enough for a regular daily diet? I dust them with vitamins.

I also occasionally give him hornworms, phoenix worms, and I think until he's back up to 100% I'll give him a pinky mouse every so often (I don't have anyone else who'll eat them and I have a few in my freezer). He really seemed to like it the first time I gave him one.

He's also getting used to handling now. Definitely still not a big fan, but he doesn't try and kill me anymore. He just starts grumbling if I hold him too long. I'm really glad to see his darker colors coming back in, his spots and pattern are way more visible now.

His eye is always like that, but it makes him look like a pirate xD I'm hoping he'll adjust to hunting with only one eye, but so far his aim is still awful, lol. At least he's pretty good about being tong-fed, although he keeps biting the tongs. I'll have to see if roaches are big enough for him to be able to strike at well, he's hopeless with mealies.

Yup, its a bit hard to see in the oldest pic but when he came to me that eye was all clouded and infected-looking. It seemed to mostly clear up on its own, but he lost use of the eye.

This little guy just gets better daily! Hoozah! A useless eye, all things considered, is a small price to pay for a new chance at life!
