Reptile... Jewelry?

Long time no see!!

A few years ago, I made a pair of earrings from Rattlesnake Rattles. I still wear them every once in a while, but I've gotten better and now I'm working on pendants and more earrings!

I've also gotten into a little bit of taxidermy. While out road cruising, I'd find more dead snakes than alive unfortunately. I always felt bad that I couldn't do anything with them other than move them off the road so scavengers wouldn't get hit. I've been working on collecting and making jewelry with the more fresh finds! It's been a blast to learn how to salvage what I can, clean it, tan it, and turn it into something pretty!

I know, sounds a little morbid... but it's a good way to recycle, sometimes I'll find upwards of 5 snakes in one night that have been hit by cars, a lot of them are intentionally hit. I'll normally only keep the very fresh and mostly intact finds, moving the rest off the road for scavengers to eat.

Here are a couple of things I have finished recently. Tell me what you guys think? I would love to read feedback.

Young Rattlesnake necklace with gold leaf.

Bullsnake bones and Rattlesnake skin earrings

And pendants galore!

I like it. Keep it up. Yeah Roadkill is sad but it gives you a general idea about what species are more prevelant in your area.

This is really neat. If I wasn't saving every penny for our wedding right now, I'd so be buying a pair of earrings.

I love it, they are very pretty :)
I'm not into taxidermy when it's the whole animal, because often it looks fake, or " uncanny valley"... Like, you know it's not alive...
But when it's skeletons or leather, it can look very good.
I don't understand the mindset behind hitting snakes intentionally... Seems like sadistic behaviour. :(
