First Bite

Posted by Quinn at 2/8/2018 7:15:06 AM

I've kept snakes for a year and I currently have 12 snakes. For a full year I had never been bitten, but I was always fearful when they were in striking pose and left them alone. I never used gloves or a snake hook. Of course it couldn't last, and of course it wasn't a good reason.

My first snake I ever got, Cornelius the corn snake, bit me when I picked him up. It was by no means as bad as I thought it would be. I've been bitten my hamsters that caused more damage. It was like being hit with a stale marshmallow. After being gun-shy for a few days, I don't fear being bitten anymore.

Looking at your collection, be thankful it wasn't your GTP.

yeah GTP bites are no joke. I have been bitten by every GTP in my collection, which is only 4. Most were just feeding responses. Those are bad because they hold on and you're just stuck like chuck, bitten and being squeezed until they let go some 1/2 hour later. But the one pissed off Biak strike actually hurt the most. It was quick but I could swear the top and bottom fangs came together through the middle of my hand. That one was sore for a few days.

My Carpets have got me a few times and it's a strong powerful bite with lots of blood, but I'm kinda used to it if there is such a thing?  But my GTP's although mine are very tame, I still fear them the most because I have heard the horror stories of their bites. I know it's not a matter of if but when I get bite by one. Not looking forward to it. lol

Nothing is like having an adult female  GTP  wizz past the mouse and grab your thumb and try and pull your hand into its cage ...  You should really try and use a hook  it's a very good tool to let the snake know it's not feeding time ,,,
