Ball python pip cam is now live!

Posted by Deb A at 7/3/2009 7:29:58 PM

So, if you don't have enough to do this weekend and wanted to sit at your computer, you can keep an eye on my ball python eggs.

Day 55 is 6 July so they could start pipping anytime. Enjoy!

UPDATE - Cam is set to broadcast from 9am-10pm PDT. Right now I'm having issues because it looks like the stream stopped RIGHT after I left to go to work. It will be back online after 5:30pm PDT tonight.

Well what happen?

Looks like my 'net connection dropped at home. When that happens, I have to close the browser and restart the feed. Can't do that when I'm not at home. Tomorrow it won't be an issue as I'll have remote access to the machine.

Now, if I can just teach the dog to restart the feed...

Hey Deb, is it possible to see the babies move inside the shell? Because either my comp is really messed or your baby just moved! I'll keep an eye on them when i can.

it's quite possible, I think. When I candle them I can see them move so seeing an egg move wouldn't be out of the question.

Do keep in mind though that the incubator is on my computer desk..so if I'm here and typing it could be moving because of me :-)

lol oh man got my hopes up then shot down lol but you have made my yurning to breed worse. if i bred an albino male BP with my Yoda who is labled common, what are the chances of her producing albino's?

Deb A,

Betty - Albino is a recessive trait so your normal would have to carry the gene for albino and then you'd have a 50% chance for each egg to be albino.

All of the babies would be het for albino though, since they would get the albino gene from the male.

I think so...though I could have counted wrong and they were also incubated between 88-89F.  I know they're there and ready - just a matter of being patient!

ah, if you come in after 10pm PDT, then the light will be off :-)

I've been watching it all day and it's been working fine (it's on now). Hopefully you'll be able to check it out sometime. It's as exciting as watching paint dry!

why do two of the eggs have dents? I know with my Gecko eggs that means the baby probably has died in the eggs especially if they haven't hatched when the other egg has. I don't know a lot about snake eggs but it doesn't seem normal to me.

Deb A,

Those are the ones that are close to hatching. As the baby gets bigger and closer to hatching, the yolk will start to get absorbed which causes the denting.

It's something you want to see with snake eggs as long as it's the end of the incubation time.

oh ok thats awesome. Something i now know when i get a chance to start a BP Project

Their hatching Whooo!!!

hehe..I HAD to cut one this morning, just to make sure they were OK. You can see a third egg is now starting to dent so we should have more pippage soon!

At what point do you pip all of them? Its been over sixty days. Isnt that a death sentence for pythons?

Deb A,
Posted At: 7/15/2009 4:37:38 PM
nope, at 88F, the average incubation is 60-65 days or so. I keep checking on them and they're still kicking in the eggs.  Another one just started to collapse so I still think they're OK. If I don't get more pipping by the weekend, I'll do the rest of them
