Athletes/Celebrities and USARK

Posted by Elexus Hargis at 3/9/2015 12:21:54 PM

Has anyone thought to contact any celebrities or althletes who own reptiles to get them to donate to USARK and/or talk to the media about the ban? I know those guys travel a lot and they're usually pretty passionate about keeping and caring for their animals so maybe they would like to help and speak out.

I know the following people have exotics:

Nicolas Cage has 2 cobras

Leonardo DiCaprio just bought a 10 year old, 38 lb Sulcata Tortoise in 2010.

Slash has a bunch of snakes.

Basketball players Mikki Moore, Dwight Howard, and others have Pythons, Boas and gators....

Anybody know some people who knows some people to get these guys + others on board? I think the general public fails to realize how many people keep reptiles as pets.

I think the media has done enough damage! Getting celebrities to speak out is a good idea but we need them to speak out at the propper venue

The general public isn't what's killing us, it's the politicians and special interest groups.
Your point is well received though.

Agree with Aaron on this.  While your intentions are good, this is not a snake/reptile issue as much as it is a complete and utter abuse of power by a governmental agency.  In other words, it's a corruption problem with our government... which is a much, much bigger and more difficult problem to deal with than most seem to understand.   By definition, we (ie, a small minority of "weirdos" who like yucky snakes) are not going to win the lobbying/special interest game.

The best thing would be to get them to donate to USARK.  Kerry King already does.

I contacted several athletes years ago when all this first started. They'd rather not get involved.

Which is why donating to USARK is best. They don't have to publicize or make a big deal about it, but they would still be helping.

Is it?

For those that want to be as anonymous as possible and yet want to help, yes it is.

Perhaps asking if these people would be willing to add their names to the lobbying group against this abuse of power..."So and So supports USARK against unfair ban"

I just posted this in my blog, with the link, but what this lady said I think really sums up what Aaron and Ed are saying...

“anyone who has done their homework knows that there is nothing legitimate about the science that [people behind anti-smoking campaigns] are producing to push their agenda.”

“It is activist driven science,” she said.
