Geeking out about Herpetology

Posted by Elexus Hargis at 10/12/2015 4:25:58 PM

Before I left to go back home this weekend, I happened to glance at my school newspaper.

Fast forward to today: While finishing up my Bio lab class, the teacher makes a remark about how snakes and the herpetology professor are pretty chill (This is after a girl said the preserved Crotalus atrox was gross).

I remembered the paper and decided to go visit him. I found the herpetology lab (it had a rattler skull diagram next to the room number and a ball python poster on the wall). I nervously walk down the hall, looking for his office (which was easy to find because there were snake memes plastered all over the door) and knock.

I was so excited to meet him. A few fun facts about Dr. Meiks is that he got his doctorate's alongside Bryan Hummel, He has an eastern hognose and ball python in the herp lab, and (what i assume is frequently) rescues and relocates snakes (as evidenced by the rattler in the snake bag behind his desk).

I'm excited, to say the least, about working with him while I'm here working on my BS degree.

and hopefully I can convince the school to build a serpentarium like the other school I almost went to.....

Yay!
