Ophelia Update

Posted by Janna Ragsdale at 1/31/2010 12:51:48 PM

First blog about Ophelia (story and pictures)

I should have posted an update about her sooner, but anyway, Ophelia is doing well.  She got three rounds of Ceftazidime injections from Dr. Hawley, and I've been putting Silver Sulfadiazine cream on her daily.  She's been in the blue for awhile now, and hopefully will shed any day now.

I have not offered her food yet.  I didn't want to try feeding too soon after the incident, plus she's done a lot of moving around due to trips back and forth to the vet. I want her first experience with food to be in a time that is as stress-free as possible for her.  The less stress she feels and associates with food, the higher chance for success we have to get her feeding again.  Once she sheds, I'll offer her a F/T rat and we'll see how things go.

Now, what I'm sure you're all waiting for.  Pictures.

These were taken on 1/23/10 after one week in my care:

And here are the pictures from yesterday, 1/30/10, after two weeks in my care:

Dr. Hawley is very pleased with how well she's healing.  We'll have another check-up after Ophelia sheds.

Thanks guys!

It was really hard for me to see progress, since I work with her every day.  Finally laying the pictures all out made me really see just how far we've come.

I just looked at your first blog and OMG i must say that you are doing such a great job!  She looks to be recovering and I am really pulling for her.  Poor baby ... she sure is fortunate to have a "momma" like you :)
