Vital Economic Survey

Vital Economic Survey

Georgetown Economic Services (GES) has been hired by USARK to do the first comprehensive economic assessment ever done on the Herp Industry. This is very important because to date the economic data that has been portrayed by US Fish & Wildlife Service and Animal Rights advocates have been fundementally flawed and a gross underestimate. This is a chance to "Set The Record Straight". It will continue to be a vital tool in establishing the Herp Industry as a real and independant industry with real power as an economic engine. The trade in high quality reptiles must be demonstrated to be the valueable piece of the American economy that it is. Please participate by reading the letter from GES below, fill out the survey/s and forward to anyone else who might be able to contribute. Thank you!

Andrew Wyatt/ President USARK

Dear Industry Member,

Georgetown Economic Services is conducting a survey on the reptile industry on behalf of the United States Association of Reptile Keepers. The purpose of this survey is to provide a profile of the U.S. reptile industry, including a description of the size, scope, and flow of the reptile trade across the United States. The information that you provide will not be shared with anyone outside of GES. Your data will be kept highly confidential and used only in compiling aggregate figures for the industry profile. GES will not report individual companies’ sales and expenditures.

If you have not been called or written to by Georgetown Economic Services please click on the link below that best applies to your business.

If your business is involved in promoting reptile shows, select the following link:

For all other businesses, please select the following link:

Both of these surveys should take about five to ten minutes to complete. If you have any questions, please feel free to write or call me at 202.719.6033.

Thank you,

Ariel Collis

I did this and it took 90 seconds.  Please take the time to complete the survey!

I am just a hobbyist trying to become a business- I do not have any employees at the time, and have not made much money to boast about- should I still fill this out? I want to help in anyway possible!!

I did mine.  Though I wish they would have asked me how much I spend to maintain my business, not only the sales that go into it.  I feel that only tells a part of the whole picture.

I took the survey and I echo Mo's response.  I wish they had asked me how much per year I SPEND on reptile food, supplies, accessories, etc.

i took mine and i agree with kristen and MO with what they said ... they dont bother to ask how much we put in to the animals hell i haven't even gotten a a chance to really produce any thing yet still raising it all up lol

Based on the questions being asked, I didn't bother to fill it out.... +1 to Mo. Economic impact isn't just sales alone.... I'm JUST getting to a point where I might actually be able to sell, not just spend =/

I just did mine.....by no means a perfect survey, but it is at least something.  I think that it is a good thing to do and should not be boycotted.  If everyone participates the numbers will speak volumes.

I'm guessing you are supose to be a legitimate business(license, etc) to partake in this survey?

I'd encourage everyone to take the survey.

No, you do not need a business license to partake.  If you've sold an animal, take the survey!

I agree with everyone here about the expenditures; I think it is a very important part of the big picture, and one that we should be recording.  I wrote to the point of contact for the survey about this and I'm not totally thrilled with the response.

"Dear Ms. [amarilrose],

Thank you for writing. I agree that spending decisions are very important. I am primarily relying on previously done research for that information. However, if you know of businesses that serve the reptile community that you believe have not been sent the survey, it would be invaluable if you sent me their names and email addresses so that I can send them a survey. I appreciate your help.

Sincerely,

Ariel"

(sorry for the multiple posts, was having trouble pasting for some reason)

Joseph Jenkins,

I'm pretty sure that the survey said total revenue, not profit, so that would include expenditures
