Boaphile

Posted by Leah Gray at 2/5/2012 3:17:33 PM

So Humphrey is starting to be crammed in his tub. With my State taxes I decided to buy him a luxury home. So I now have a 4' boaphile enroute, complete with a radiant heat panel installed, under tank heating, and keyed locks Laughing it's the 421D, the one with one door. I think he's gonna like it, I'm excited for when it gets delivered in 4-5 weeks!

I decided to get the keyed locks on it for the simple fact that he's considered a "big snake", and the last thing I want is people saying my son is not safe in our house. He knows not to ever open the snakes when me or my boyfriend is not around or without asking, but people don't usually see it that way. Once we buy a house and have a "designated reptile room" then we can just lock that door, but for now, Humphrey will live like a prisoner....kind of lol. AHHH I'm excited Bacon

Id use Animal plastics over Boaphile. Ive got some boaphiles and not to fond of them.

Im Sure your animal will be happy with its new enclosure regardless!

I've heard both sides, honestly, anything is better than the tub he is in :)

Good choice on the locks, I'm thinking that may be a regulation for big snakes soon is locked cages, which really isn't the end of the world, if I can keep my snakes and all I have to do is get locked cages for the large ones, no problems here.  It would be stupid though for bps and corns, so I hope it's only for large snakes.

Pics?  You didn't post pics?

Of Humphrey or the cage? I won't have the cage for another 4-5 weeks...

The cage, I missed the part where you said it wasn't here yet, lol.  I'm kind of everywhere today.

Haha no problem. I promise as SOON as it arrives and it's set up I'll take some serious photos ;)

AP cage 4x2x1 150 plus 45 shipped.  Shipped in ten days......Lots of pros right there

Leah Gray,

Yeah but I got the RHP installed, under tank heating and keyed locks added...Idk, I'd have to see them both in person before I could decide. Maybe I'd go with AP for my females cage in a year or so. Hopefully by then I can see both and decide. For now, boaphile won.

I personally have AP and I like them better than Boaphile, they just seem more sturdy and even thought they don't come already set up, it only takes a couple minutes to set them up and the heat takes like a minute to install and believe me I'm not handyman.  Plus they are cheaper.  As for shipped, I've never received one in 10 days, the shortest was 4 weeks.  Which isn't really a bad thing, but there are only a couple that are considered quick ship items and you have to get sliding glass, which I'm not really a fan of for any cages.

Patrick Malloy,

T8's ship in ten days never said youll get it in ten days. Sliding glass is better then the acyrlic sliding windows or the single hinged windows.....

Tiki108,

Well we'll have to agree to disagree, I don't like the sliding glass, my friend has the sliding glass T8's and I have 3 of the swing doors and we both agree we like the swing doors better.  One isn't actually better than the other, but it's just personal preference.  T8's with sliding glass doors do ship in 10 days or less, but I've never bought one of those which is why I said all of mine have taken at least 4 weeks.

How bigs your biggest cage?

Tiki108,

I have 3 T8's 2 Carpet Cages, 2 different Economy Racks and I had bought a A30 that I ended up selling since I no longer have a use for it.

Congrats on your purchase, Leah!  This whole AP vs. BP debate will rage on forever.  I have a four-stack of the 422Ds from BP, and I love them.  I've since bought a number of racks from BP too, and they're just as great.  Enjoy!

Leah Gray,

Thanks! I've been dealing with the debate since I started looking into cages so it's okay LOL. There's pros and cons to both, the way I see it is ANYTHING is an upgrade from the tub he's in, so whether it was BP or AP he will be happy. He doesn't care which one lol.

Tiki108,
Posted At: 2/5/2012 4:52:13 PM

I agree, I'm not saying there was anything wrong with BP, but since Patrick brought it up I decided to throw my 2 cents in.  Both cages are great, it's like saying No Amel Corns are better than Anery Corns, they're all corns, it's just a matter of personal preference and I don't fault you for your decision in any way, so please don't take it that way.

Leah Gray,
Posted At: 2/5/2012 5:00:03 PM

No of course not, honestly like you said it's a personal preference thing. I may love it or hate it, could go either way I guess. I'm just happy to get him out of the tub lol. Do RHPs mess with sheds at all like "bulbs" do?

Paul White,
Posted At: 2/5/2012 5:01:18 PM

I'm sure the snake doesn't care. My personal preference is Animal Plastics but really, the snake'll be fine in EITHER of them, so enjoy :) My only real beef with boamasters is for big snakes, I don't think they're deep enough. But for a ball? Hell, 4x2 is a luxury house for one of those :D

I will say you probably don't need the undertank heat if you're using a good sized radiant heat panel; an 80 watt one keeps one of my 6x3 AP cages in the mid 90s on the warm end all by itself.

Leah Gray,

It's for a male boa. I was told my the boaphile guys that I should get the UTH as well because I keep my house 70 degrees in the winter and about 65-70 in the summer....I don't have a reptile room yet and I have reptiles in 3 different rooms of my house lol.

Paul White,

65 degrees?! I'd hate to see your electric bill...I let my house stay in the mid 80s int he summer. I just heat the shed to the low 70s in winter though

well i think its awesome good for Humphrey!

Leah Gray,
Posted At: 2/5/2012 5:25:33 PM

No, it's usually closer to 70, I only run two small acs on and off and that's enough. It's only a 900-1000 or so Sq ft apartment lol.

I love my Boaphiles, and wish I could afford more. Never tried AP but I've decided (after CNW cages) that I don't like having to put mine together when I'm already spending a ridiculous amount of money.

Andrea ,

I've moved a lot and as a smaller person, boaphiles are great to move! I also liked the acrylic doors-less chance of breaking. And I agree with Lauren, they are much nicer when you don't have to put them together.

Cynthia Chaplin,

RHP's are awesome, they don't dry the air like other types of heating. Congrats!

What a sweet new home!  Sucks it'll take so long to get to you.  Oh well, something to look forward to!
