Q: Laying Box Medium?

Alright... I'm used to boas, easy, they drop their litters. This is our first year breeding pythons. My girl is a few days past her date for laying after her pre-lay shed and she seems like she just keeps searching for a good place to lay. I just have paper towels in there right now.. I was wondering if any one has had any significant success in getting a troubled girl to lay on any substrate? I'm not talking about incubating I'm just talking about the substrate for them to lay the clutch on. Maybe I'm just being paranoid? :) thanks!

She needs a lay box; something secure for her benefit, filled with vermiculite or sphagnum moss.

Do you mean.. like a hide box? Something to crawl under, or something to sit in?

Like a moist hide... Large enough for her to curl up comfortably with the clutch of eggs, so larger than a normal-sized moist hide for her. Spaghnum moss is a decent lay substrate.

It can all depend on the snake. I had a laybox the first year I bred ball pythons. Last year I didn't bother and she laid just fine. If you have a box big enough for her go ahead and put one in. I not she really will lay when she's ready whether the is a box or not

Oh should have said if you do put a box in I usually use either damp sphagnum moss or a mix of Aspen and Eco earth. You don't want it soaking wet, just lightly damp.

She laid yesterday!! I had to put her in the box the day before though... she wanted to lay under it, lol. Thanks everyone!
