I Am Back

Posted by LGray23 at 12/21/2018 10:55:46 PM

I feel like I owe everyone an explanation, considering I haven't shown my face here in several years. I have been a member here for a long time, but took a serious step back from the reptile social community for several years.

First, I don't think I properly thanked everyone for sending such wonderful messages when I left for the military in 2012. My mom actually printed out all the comments and well-wishes and mailed them to me while I was in basic. And I truly needed it, and I appreciate you all.

Second, I got married not long after graduating. I was with a non-reptile person, and honestly slowly downgraded my collection for several reasons. 1) I had absolutely no help, but had to work more hours. 2) I started a depressive downward spiral, and ended up stuck in a very toxic marriage for almost 5 years. I was in such bad shape that my animals were not getting the care they deserved, so I made the decision to downgrade most of my collection. I am happy to say I left that marriage in 2017, and have since found a wonderful person who happens to love all my animals and helps quite frequently.

I remembered iHerp because I recently got a little hognose. I had posted a question on Facebook in a hoggie group and who pops up but Doom himself. I was like WHAT! I am sad to admit iHerp had kind of slipped my mind until that point.

I separated from the military (my 6 years were up), and found a federal civilian job working for the Army. I am about halfway done with my degree in Environmental Science and will be moving forward towards Wildlife Biology. I've given up some animals, added some animals. I've grown up and learned a lot. I'm happy to be back, and I hope everyone is doing well.

Woah! Welcome back! Almost the same situation with me, except husband joined the service and we moved to Alaska. Wasn't willing to take all my tropical, warm weather loving scale babies up there! I will be trying to get a small collection back up in the next few years!

Welcome back! I have been wondering where life had taken you all this time (like literally in the past couple of weeks).

I can relate, far too well, too. My divorce was ~2010-2012 (it really took that long), but it was the support I found from iHerpers that helped me to see what a toxic and depressing marriage I was in. Non-reptile people didn't get it at all, and found it confusing that I would cling to my reptile pets after my husband complained of them, because obviously pets are that disposable. Anyway, much better without that noise now.

I am on the evil FB too.
