Back Again

Posted by Jason DeFreitas at 9/12/2019 2:00:24 PM

Took a hiatus after December of 2015.  My ex-wife and I separated and I had to shack up with my parents for a while to find stable footing (I gave her the house).  As such, I had to sell my two cornsnakes I had.  My mother had a phobia like no one could believe.  I was heart broken, but sold them to a reputable pet shop locally that I knew would give them a good home.  No Petco or Petsmart for my snakes (not a fan of larger, regional chains).

Anyway, fast forward some almost four years later and my wonderful now fiancee would give me the green light on my first new snake purchase.  Originally I had an Anery and a Golddust Bloodred.  I was between a Bloodred, Caramel Bloodred, Snow and Pewter.  But, I decided on Grim.  Hoping we see a clean pattern fade as time goes on and get a good, deep red color.  But, only time will tell.

I got him from VMSHerps and it was overnight delivery.  I set him into his new viv last night and am letting him acclimate until Saturday or Sunday undisturbed before feeding for the first time.  Obviously he'll be on pinkies (f/t).  He was pretty stressed upon taking him out.  I may have lost a bit of my touch, but he struck me on my middle finger knuckle as I took him out (understandably after a trip from Colorado to Virginia in a cup/box).  I just smirked and moved on.  Nothing to see here, LoL!  Just needs some acclimation, tlc and a good home.  We'll take our time and ensure we handle in a limited fashion (2 - 3 x a week, 5 - 10 minutes to start), until we know he is doing better with it.

Should be an interesting ride, but I'm really excited to be a reptile owner again.

Welcome back to reptile keeping. Corns are my favorites and I hope your bloodred boy gets to grow into a nice classic red. I miss having a nice bloodred.
