Let's bring some of the community back to iHerp

Posted by Psycho Dragon at 5/10/2020 8:43:11 AM

It's been damn near a month and no one is posting blogs/articles/anything to talk about. Most of the world is under lockdown from COVID-19, so I know you guys aren't so busy you can't find something to talk about. Let's get some human interaction going here. Here's a prompt: What have you been doing with your extra lockdown time? Personally, I've been painting all the miniatures in the house. I paint Warhammer 40k primarily, but ran out of those models about a week into this fiasco, so I moved onto the boardgames in the house. I've painted all of Nemesis (think Alien, the boardgame), Horrified (Universal Monsters game), Space Marine Adventures (mini 40k from Barnes and Noble), and am working on Runebound 3rd Edition and Zombicide: Black Plague. Other than that, watching movies/TV shows (like binge watching all of Deadwood including the movie), and doing some socially distanced hiking.

I've actually been working through this whole muckluck show. But I have started modding game consoles as a hobby while building a nice collection of highly illegal roms and isos. And basically handling current events the same way I deal with everything else.

I am bad at coming back here for social things. Sorry guys.

I've been watching the days blur together. Knitting. Baking. 24/7 mom thing. I'm busy af, and I'm not entirely sure what I have gotten done.

Oh yeah that reminds me.........I've done this also tho it's not really "bread" and more of a cake but still

I'm not going to admit that we already bought baking supplies at the Restaurant Supply store before COVID was even a thing, but I guess I just did. But hey, at least we had plenty of flour and yeast to keep us in carbs throughout this whole thing. Also, the pasta roller and cutter I got Cay on Black Friday a couple years ago continues to be one of the best self-serving gifts I've come up with. But now I have Danny Trejo's new cookbook, so we are making Abuelita Doughnuts tonight. We already killed the citrus, garlic, and herb shrimp tacos.

I work too much. Horticulture is apparently an essential service, even if I don't work with edible plants anymore. We're understaffed at the moment (some people were scared to go back to work) and it's spring. People haven't seen green for 6 months so everything's crazy, they all want plants. Hopefully things should calm down in a week or two.

This was from today's adventure in donut making. We made the Abuelita donuts from Danny Trejo's new cookbook (highly recommended btw). Holy muckluck these are dangerously good.

We moved recently and are still unpacking. In the off time I play some video games, read books, and draw. There are too many boxes still around for me to even think about any kind of painting right now.

Ive been trying to help get folks to join iHerp to help boost the ranks again. However, It doesnt seem to be allowing folks to verify their email addresses to complete the setup.

I've tried to get new people to the site, but same issue, they aren't able to complete registration and reaching out to Aaron hasn't gotten anywhere.

I work from home and the company is deemed 'essential' so no 'extra' free time. Doing bulk shopping, if and when, I do have to go to the store (every 2 months instead of every other week). I was already a homebody and my other main hobby is gaming, so not much has really changed. :)

FB and Twitter have kinda killed any and all forums. Something about the immediate connection and able to get more intimate on a personal level. I Can't stand FB, Full of grown ass people whining, i Miss MP, MVF and even the old days here. Glad the spaghetti virus rhetoric isn't here TBH. The Reptile world is also super niche, everyone refusing to use kingsnake is also a new concept to me, It had such traffic and a community fanbase.

More likely watching the pervs on fb creep on any woman who doesn't look like dried shoe leather.

I knew mvf was dying, but ks too? Damn.

Working. A lot. Getting a lot of PPE and medications into the country for foreign citizens trapped here for the foreseeable future. Drooling over all of Justin and Cay’s gorgeous pasta meals.

Gardening. I planted more plants than usual this year, including veggies and flowers.

Have been cleaning and painting the house, hiking, riding my bike.

Doing everything I can to stay busy in safe ways!

I've been working a ton of OT.  My team can handle disputes, though it's not our primary function, but over the last 3 months has basically become our primary function.

I wish I had more time to build muckluck here. I am so sick of Facebook, drama, and I miss normal people. Not that you’re normal, don’t get cocky. But we had a really cool camaraderie before the Facebook exodus. Love you guys

Deleting FB was one of my better life decisions.

I stopped going except for bonus materials for a game I play. Also cant delete due to it being my login info for a bunch of sites. But Having been on it a handful of times this entire year has been great.

I've been limiting my fb time as well.  I think we should all try to make more of an effort to blog.  Life overall has just been so busy.  I have some friends in other countries that are easier to keep in contact via fb, but what I've done is unfollowed almost everyone and all groups so that I can just check the few things I want to check and share some photos of my critters and whatnot.

I also deactivated my FB account.  I spend some time on Twitter.  My girlfriend and I get together about 4 times a week.  We both self-isolate when we're not together.  My two snakes were already spoiled, but both are getting alot more attention now.
