Photo Shoot of my Eastern Tiger Snakes (Telescopus semiannulatus)

Posted by Sonja K. at 4/6/2012 1:54:14 PM

I've slowly but surely been getting pics taken so I can update my website with ones of the animals that I am currently keeping.

I liked how these turned out, and since I know there are a few fans out there of these two, there were a couple reasons to share.

They are Eastern Tiger Snakes (Telescopus semiannulatus). The male was CBB here in the states in the fall of 2010, and the female was imported in from Tanzania.

First, my little one, Rory. He has more than doubled his weight since I got him... He is approx. 18 grams now.

And here's the female, Reyna:

And I'll end with my favorite shot...

So cute! They look more like toys than real snakes. :D

Awesome shots! Perched arboreals (not just snakes- chams, geckos, treefrogs, etc.) are BY FAR the best photography subjects. The perch adds another dimension that creates so many more angles and opportunities, so many choices. It's so awesome.

That last shot is great. Tongue-flick shots are always cool. I just got a new camera with a 30X optical zoom, so I can finally get some good defensive posture shots of my rattlers (without putting myself in harm's way). They do that awesome slow-mo tongue flick. It's great to get shots of them standing up, tongue hanging way down and the rattle slightly blurred from the movement. Good stuff. Thanks for sharing Sonja! :)      -p-

Agreeing with the eye comments... they don't look real.  I just love them!  What is their temperment like?
