Whitney Delivered...

Posted by Sonja K. at 7/31/2012 12:03:26 PM

Another survivor of last year's heat up is now a mom. Whitney, a 2007 Sunglow produced by Pete Kahl, has delivered.

In the last month of her gestation, I questioned whether or not she was going to slug out. Depending on the position she was in, sometimes she had a more "lumpy" appearance rather than the "fullness" of a typical gravid Boa.

But, back on July 11th, on day 103 from her POS, she gave birth to her first litter - a smaller one, that consisted of 8 live, 1 lesser developed stillborn, and 5 slugs. (Which explains the lumpiness I was seeing.)

The sire of the clutch, Rudy, that I was told was a DH for Sunglow at acquisition, did not prove to be Het. for Albino. All the babies produced were Hypos, though... meaning either Whitney or Rudy is a "Super" Hypo - the possibility of which wasn't even something I was aware of.

All the babies are (66%) Possible Super Hypos, 100% for Albino. At least I can guarantee these babies are 100% Hets since mom was a Sunglow. : )

Only half of the babies have had their first shed, but I decided to go ahead and offer them all their first meal this past weekend. I was very pleased when 6 out of 8 took the offering of a F/T mouse fuzzy... I certainly won't complain about that!

Here are a couple group shots of the little ones from shortly after they were born:

i like the little "X" on the one on the top left.   Congrats on the new littel ones

Hooray! They're really pretty, I like those tail stripes and x markings.

I second the above comments and congratulations!

Yay!  I'm so glad!  I mean, I kinda knew you had another litter, but I wanted to hear the story!

I guess that means we're overdue for catching up  ;)

Sonja ,

Hey!  I already picked out the litte X one as my favorite!!!

Sonja K. ,

Thanks all!

Still waiting for that one in the upper left to shed... but it ate right away. : )

Emily Milton,

They are so cute!  Congrats!!!

STOP POSTING PICS OF BABY BOAS!  Ok, now I feel better <3<3<3

Rebecca ,
Posted At: 7/31/2012 3:46:36 PM

but Emily, if she stops posting pictures, how are you going to figure out which one you're getting??

Emily Milton,
Posted At: 7/31/2012 3:47:28 PM

Hmm... I see no fault in your logic.

I'll decide later.

Rebecca ,
Posted At: 7/31/2012 3:48:20 PM

That's right.  My logic is undeniable.  ;)-<

Sonja K. ,

HeHeHe... Emily... Just wait until I take post shed pics... especially of Mystic's babies!

Pope of iHerp and Bread,

You had babies on my birthday. I'm pretty sure there's a tax you have to pay. Let me check and I'll get back with you.

George H. Wessel VII,
Posted At: 7/31/2012 3:58:13 PM

Just get ready to pick one Emily. Don't fight it. That empty tank has got to be used for something. And it already has a UTH!

Sarah Auzina,
Posted At: 7/31/2012 3:58:25 PM

Oh how exciting and so very CUTE they are!

Emily Milton,
Posted At: 7/31/2012 3:59:57 PM

I KNOW GEORGE.  But it's only 2'x1' - and I really don't know how to properly care for a Boa - as I have not researched them yet.

But damn, they sure are cute.  And poor Sonja just has too many - too many mouths to feed.  I'm sure it interferes with her free time.  So if I could just order one, it may help her to relax more.

Sonja K. ,
Posted At: 7/31/2012 4:01:51 PM

Nate, pretty sure that was Whitney, not me! LOL

But, being they did arrive on your birthday, you now need to hand over a million or so iHerp points to me as payment for that honor... thanks for pointing that out!

Rebecca ,
Posted At: 7/31/2012 4:02:40 PM

well, seeing as how Boa constrictor imperator is such an obscure species, you might have to really dig to find a proper care sheet... lucky we gave Sonja here to guide you!  ;)

andy you're right; she IS a very busy woman!  you CAN help her relax more...  LOL

Rebecca ,
Posted At: 7/31/2012 4:03:27 PM

Sonja, only you could afford a cool mil iHerp points as a bargaining chip!  ;)

Rebecca ,
Posted At: 7/31/2012 4:03:58 PM

{pardon my awful typos}

George H. Wessel VII,
Posted At: 7/31/2012 4:04:51 PM

Emily I said this before. Baby boa:baby tank. When said boa out grows baby tank, upgrade to adult tank. Keep baby tank for new baby snake. Upgrade again. Repeat as necessary.

Rebecca ,
Posted At: 7/31/2012 4:05:55 PM

George, you are wise beyond even the depths of your own sarcasm.

Emily Milton,
Posted At: 7/31/2012 4:06:01 PM

True... and from what I've experienced with the Banana, snakes grow slowly - so I could have time before I have to deal with an upgrade......

Pope of iHerp and Bread,
Posted At: 7/31/2012 4:06:51 PM

I don't know you took what I said and turned it in to a way for me to pay you, but that's not how it works. This is the real world, not Sonja World. :)

Pope of iHerp and Bread,
Posted At: 7/31/2012 4:07:33 PM

Ball pythons grow slowly. Boas have a slightly faster metabolism.

Rebecca ,
Posted At: 7/31/2012 4:07:51 PM

I think Sonja has enough iHerp points to exercise her own rules within the realm of her own blog  :P

Pope of iHerp and Bread,
Posted At: 7/31/2012 4:09:14 PM

I don't know if you've looked recently, but thanks to Aaron's kindness and my bloodshed, I am now the reigning champ again. And I'm still your Pope.

Rebecca ,
Posted At: 7/31/2012 4:11:11 PM

aww, look @ that, the Nate is trying to flex his iHerp points at me.

Pope of iHerp and Bread,
Posted At: 7/31/2012 4:12:37 PM

I don't get to do it often. And I haven't quited lived up to today's full useless potential, so I went for it. If anybody needs me, I'll be over here playing mindless video games.

Rebecca ,
Posted At: 7/31/2012 4:14:29 PM

"I don't get to do it often." Lies.

Unless you mean at me.  Because I would have to be online far more frequently for you to do so.  Register that as a sincere apology for my run of random lurker-ness.

George H. Wessel VII,
Posted At: 7/31/2012 4:15:23 PM

Thank you Rebecca. Here

Pope of iHerp and Bread,
Posted At: 7/31/2012 4:16:20 PM

I cannot tell a lie.

Rebecca ,
Posted At: 7/31/2012 4:17:10 PM

I've been warned of your bacon.  Thank you, George.

All I can think about is the t-shirt with a van (or a witch) on it & the words "stranger have the best candy"

Rebecca ,
Posted At: 7/31/2012 4:19:44 PM

or "strangers"

awesome typo placement, I must say.

Sonja K. ,
Posted At: 7/31/2012 4:28:30 PM

But Nate... somewhere there is a comment from Aaron where he says MY (Sonja's) iHerp points are the only ones that mean anything!

Rebecca ,
Posted At: 7/31/2012 4:30:23 PM

the Pope points are counterfeit iHerp points, eh??  ;)

Pope of iHerp and Bread,
Posted At: 7/31/2012 4:32:14 PM

Sonja insists they aren't real.

George H. Wessel VII,

George H. Wessel VII,

In all seriousness, a boa is next on my list.

Rebecca ,
Posted At: 7/31/2012 4:34:06 PM

LMAO!!  George did you go & find that just for me?? aww

Emily Milton,
Posted At: 7/31/2012 4:34:32 PM

I thought he took it last week.

Rebecca ,
Posted At: 7/31/2012 4:35:41 PM

*perfection* Emily

Posted At: 7/31/2012 4:35:59 PM

Congrats on the new babies!

George H. Wessel VII,
Posted At: 7/31/2012 6:04:30 PM

I would love to get into boas because I think the whole live birth thing is truly amazing. It's just the only two species I'm interested in (BRB,ETB) I would never breed, just keep as pets.

Emily just do it. It's not like if you ever have a question Sonja won't be here for you.

George H. Wessel VII,
Posted At: 7/31/2012 6:05:24 PM

Um yeah Rebecca I did.

Emily I thought I could trust you now I have to let her out of the trunk!

He made me promise that my little girl from Mike (Cainescolumbians) was my last for at least two years.

I could cry. in the dark. emo.
