First time breeding

Posted by Vlad Talon at 4/10/2014 10:03:53 AM

I just wanted to write down what an amazing experience it is to breed snakes. I've raised reptiles for years, and have bred some leopard geckos for the last two years. So I finally felt my Milk snakes were ready. There is so much preparation that goes into it, especially the stress of brumation. Its my first time, too! But the happiness I feel at seeing them lock up for the first time is worth the effort. Now I wont count my eggs before they're even fertilized, but I cant wait!

Breeding is an aspect of the hobby that I really enjoy. Best wishes with your first project.

It definitely takes things to a new level :) I am always both relieved and lonely during brumation, so I'm going to holdback a few babies & get some more "pet only" species to play with so I'm not lonely during brumation :)  Every stage for me is exciting, from  pairing to babies, but baby time is, of course, my favorite...the culmination of a years hard work.

My first year was last year with my Kenyans.
