Update on Boo Boo (New Rescue)

Posted by Sonja K. at 6/11/2008 1:39:21 PM

The adoption chair from our Herp. Society had told us that the boa we adopted has been in a constant state of shed since he came in. (Must be his body just trying to heal itself.) So, last night, I figured a nice long soak in the tub would do him good. Well, it did. After he had soaked for a while, I rubbed my hand down his body just like I was petting him, and the shed began rolling off in large pieces. It would get caught up on the scarred areas, but with a little bit of my assistance, this went well and before long the entire body was shed free. Then it was time to see about the head. He allowed me to rub under his lower jaw, and low and behold, it came off there, too. Then, I went to the upper area where his nostrils should be, it came off in smaller pieces at first because of the damage to that area, but once I got a bigger piece started, I pulled it slowly back over the eyes, and to my amazement, a number of retained eye caps came off from the left eye, and I could see his eye moving as he looked around! I've seen retained eye caps before, but never like that!
Woo Hoo! I'm so excited for him! We were afraid he had lost the vision in that eye. It still looks cloudy, but we're hopeful it'll continue to improve!

(I've posted new pics of the eye after this shed.)

Good to hear he's doing better! I'll bet he was glad to get those eye caps off. :)

Wow looks much better. I can't believe there were a number of caps on the one eye. Thats the one thing I look for when my snakes shed. The piece off the head to make sure the eyes caps came out. Thought that was standard practice. So good to know he's in good hands now :)
