About Fred Apuan
My Reptile Interests
Well, we've got a virtual zoo, here.... LOL. We've got an Asian Box Turtle (Telulah), a Bearded Dragon (King Kam), a Leopard Tortoise (Toby), 7 Various snakes & 23 Corn snakes. I don't go "out" to field herp, but would love to give it a try. Since I work in the desert, I catch a lot of herps around me. I've caught 3 coachwhips (very pink), and several kingsnakes. I've also caught 2 baby Western Diamondback Rattlers.
Other Interests
I really love movies, Music from the 70's and 80's, reading, FOOTBALL (Go Cowboys, Broncos and Colts!) - Don't ask me why I like 3 teams... unless you REALLY wanna hear the answer! I LOVE Science Fiction... Star Wars, Star Trek, Star Gate SG-1, Star Gate: Atlantis... love them all. I also really love heroes. Not the TV series (which I find to be so completely convoluted), but your every day DC & Marvel Universe characters. Green Lantern (Hal Jordan) is my favorite. I also love to watch Chuck, NCIS, Flashpoint, CSI: Miami, CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, CSI: New York, et al. Finally, I really love some of the shows on Animal Planet and Discovery. The Universe, Walking With Dinosaurs, etc. Finally, I love spending time with my wife and kids. Kevin (12), Caitlyn (10), Amberly (7) and Isaac (4). We watch family movies on our "off days" and have lots of fun with the girls we work with (see below).
LOL... I'm so totally 80's you won't believe it. Styx is one of my favorite all time groups... I also like Def Leppard, Billy Joel, ELO, Journey, REO Speedwagon, etc. (SOOOO MANY!). I don't really like iPods... but I love to listen to the radio in the car while driving (keeps me awake on long drives). I used to play the Trumpet... but have really gone lax on that... LOL.
Movies... Wow... You're asking a lot. IF I had to pick a favorite I'd have to say the Star Trek movies... I know they're pretty cheesy, but I can't help it! I also love "historical" type movies... Apollo 13 is a big one. 300 is another. The National Treasure movies are great too! The "Band of Brothers" Series, A Few Good Men, Saving Private Ryan... all greats.
My wife and I had previously served 9 years as Salvation Army Officers. We served 8 of them in the Hawaiian Islands (Koloa, Honolulu (Kauluwela), Hanapepe, Hilo) and one in Modesto, CA. When we left The Salvation Army, we began working at Sunshine Acres Children's Home in Mesa, AZ. We currently work as "House-Parents" for 9 girls (we also have 4 of our own). It is a tough job, but very fulfilling at the same time.
Anything else?
I think I'm a pretty easy going guy with an awesome wife to keep me in line. Without Tawnya, I don't know where I'd be or what I'd be doing.
