About Natalie
My Reptile Interests
My boyfriend/roommate got a gecko around nine months ago, and I decided to do my reading on the species when Domino took up residence in my bedroom ;) She's basically mine by this point, since I'm the one who typically feeds her. I've wanted corn snakes (quietly, in the back of my mind, where the mouse-loving part of me couldn't find it) for a long time. I've been to a few reptile shows, done some research online, and I'm excited about getting one or two tomorrow at the local reptile convention. Ideally, I'd like to get a reverse okeetee and a butter, OR a caramel and a butter. I intend to keep them separate and (at this point) I don't intend to breed them, but I've chosen colors that would produce nice-looking offspring if I ever did decide that I could handle a clutch.
Other Interests
I'm a dog trainer by trade, and I enjoy it immensely. It was meant to be a bread-job, but I've come to realize exactly how much fun I have with it. I also flatter myself to think that I'm fairly knowledgeable on the subject. It feels nice to get to teach the masses about dogs -- everything from puppy How To, to geeking out over dog toys, to discussing odd breed trivia. I typically identify myself as a writer as well. That being said, I tend to roll my eyes at people who introduce themselves as such, since they generally haven't written anything of publishable quality or length, so I should amend that by saying that I'm a novelist. I've written novel-length fiction, and I've written publishable-quality fiction. (Sadly, the two traits rarely seem to coincide in my work.)
Shinedown, Hot Lava Monster, Rise Against, Staind, God Module, GenCab, Skinny Puppy, Sick Puppies.. Generally, I listen to alt-rock, but I've picked up a few of my boyfriend's industrial bands as well. Particularly GenCab -- they're one of the most musically-talented bands I've heard in a long time.

I attend the University of South Carolina - Columbia. I'm double-majoring in English and Religious Studies, despite having a general distaste for "Great Literature" and being both religiously and ideologically agnostic. (I sound like such a cynical jerk from my replies 0.o Promise, I'm not as blindly Rebel-Against-the-System! as I sound in these blurbs). I intend to be involved in the fantasy/sci-fi publishing business someday. Ideally, I'd like to be the author, but I understand that my skills are rather mediocre at present. I'd be interested in working as an agent or red-pen peon for a publishing house, if either would have me. As it stands, I'm working as a dog trainer until I graduate, considering teaching English in Korea for a year to pay off some student loans, and then attempting to tackle the business side of writing (naturally I'll be working on various novels during this time period, but I think I'll wait to pursue publication until I'm back in the States).
Anything else?
I have a habit of accidentally picking up hobbies (examples: knitting, mouse breeding, compulsively watching dog shows, learning to speak Korean). After joining this site, I fully expect reptiles to become The New Awesome Thing, and I'm attempting to prepare my life for the hobby overhaul that'll require. (First off, no more mouse breeding -- couldn't feed a home-bred to a snake, and couldn't look at a f/t pinkie if I had home-breds of that age).
