Animal Name: Rodney
Reference Code: VCCM01
Species: Veiled Chameleon
Chamaeleo calyptratus
Sex: Male
Locale: Unknown
Morph: Normal
Comments: Rodney is the first chameleon that I have owned. I have almost had him a month now and my guess is that he is around 3 months of age.
He is already starting to show he is a true chameleon with the attitude!

He lives in a 2' X 2' X 4' Enclosure, with two ficus plants, some fake vines, a sword fern. His lighting consists of a 24" Repti-Sun 10.0 Flourescent fixture, a 100 W Zoo Med basking light, and a Spyder Robotics Herpstat ND that is constantly monitoring his basking spot temps. The temps in his enclosure are 80 degrees F. on the cool side, and 100 degrees F. on his basking side. During the night he now has no light, and the temperature is right around 70 degrees. My hope is to get the night temps down more to like 65 or a little lower. His lighting schedule is set by a Zilla Digital timer and the Herpstat. Daytime temps are set to come on at 8:00 AM, and come off at 8:00 PM giving the total daytime lighting schedule 12 hours. I am currently feeding him 11 crickets a day, with no supplement due to an "overdose" of vitamins and D3. Starting 10/21/2008 he will be on a new supplementation schedule which consists of 5 days a week calcium w/o D3, 2 days non dusted, once at the first of the month and once at the last of the month he will be fed crickets with calcium D3, and the multivitamin. His enclosure is misted a couple times a day (3-5) to keep the humidity around 50%.

Keeping Rodney has been very different from the other reptiles I've kept, however I feel that it has been a great experience.
