Reference Code: 0.1 LTC Philothamnus macrops
Species: Usambara Green Snake
Philothamnus macrops
Sex: Female
Death Date: 1/6/2014
Comments: Philothamnus macrops is a small arboreal species that occurs in eastern Tanzania and Zanzibar. It was described from the Usambara Mountains by Boulenger (1895) as Oligolepis macrops, and after breifly being assigned to Chlorophis (Barbour & Loveridge 1928), it was moved to the genus Philothamnus by Loveridge (1957).

Having done quite a bit of work with dispholidine colubrids, I'm always interested in philothamnine snakes, since they are the phylogenetic sister group to Dispholidini. This specimen was imported by Nick Molt in 2012, and had been kept by Martin Habecker for six months.
