Comments:	Trimeresurus insularis is a stunning arboreal pitviper from Indonesia. Described originally as Trimeresurus viridis (Lacepede 1804), it was later considered a subspecies of Trimeresurus albolabris (T. a. insularis), before Giannasi et al. (2001) elevated it to species status, using amplified fragment length polymorphism. Consequently, David et al. (2011) designated it as the type species for the genus Trimeresurus. The type locality of T. insularis is SoE on Timor Island (Indonesia), but it is also known from Adonora, Alor, Bali, Flores, Java, Komodo, Lombok, Padar, Rinca, Romang, Roti, Sumba, Sumbawa, Timor, Timor Leste, and Wetar. It is thought to inhabit dry monsoon forests, and has been recorded at elevations ranging from 900-1200m (Mertens 1930). I was fortunate to acquire an immaculate pair of these beautiful pitvipers in November 2013. The male is CB2011 and the female is CB2010, and will hopefully produce some offspring in the very near future.
