Comments:	Male Common Ball Python. He is named Buddha because of the calm, accepting nature he showed us on his way home. Buddha's origin is a Christmas Miracle story: I had finally convinced my wife to let my daughter and I have Ball Pythons! She told me she didn't understand, because cold-blooded creatures couldn't show love and appreciation like warm blooded creatures could, but on the condition of no live feeding, she wouldn't stop us from having them any more. We started used-tank shopping, and found a 55 gallon for $50. The owner said he would throw in the snake for free, and we could keep or sell him, whatever we wanted. We had fancy snakes coming, so we originally planned to find him a good home. When we arrived, the lady of the house said that the snake was a gift for her nephew from 10 years before, and that he let her have it not long after. The amount of shed skin and excrement in the tank indicated that her timeline was probably correct. Shel, not being fond of snakes, but still having empathy for living creatures, decided she was going to hold the snake until we made it home and I had a chance to clean out the tank. He curled around her arm, soaking up heat, giving an occasional gentle squeeze. By the time we made it home, Shel decided that cold-blooded creatures could indeed interact and show affection. His name was Buddha, and he was HER snake, and he was going to have a Buddha statue in his tank for decoration (we did find one that fit, too). Due to the effects of his poor treatment by his previous owner (there is much more to the story), he will not be part of the breeding plans for the future. He will, however be the mascot for our endeavors. He is my wifes pet, along with Luna and Paul (cats).
