Animal Name: 0.1 LTC Dendroaspis viridis
Reference Code: Ivory Coast
Species: Western Green Mamba
Dendroaspis viridis
Sex: Female
Locale: Ivory Coast
Comments: This is arguably the most beautiful of the four currently recognized species of mambas (genus Dendroaspis). It was first described as Leptophis viridis from Liberia by the American physician Edward Hallowell in 1844. Werner (1899) moved it to the genus Dendraspis [sic], where it has since remained.

In my experience, this species tends to be the most challenging as far as captive management is concerned, as many specimens never quite lose their apprehension toward being handled.

I acquired this beautiful pair of LTC Ivory Coast specimens from a guy who had been bitten by the female, and was thus fairly motivated to find them a new home. At initially approximately 4-ft, I estimated them to be roughly 18-24 months old when I received them. They have since grown into 6-ft stunners, and produced their first clutch in 2019.
