Animal Name: Red Runners
Reference Code: Original Colony
Species: -- not defined --
Sex: Unknown
Comments: -We are currently looking at enclosure options for the next time we try to keep these. They work the best over crickets for us when feeding to the tarantula and crested geckos, they are quiet, and when kept right they don't smell. So we will be trying again soon.

-Second time around trying to keep these went much better. We used a dark plastic tub to house in with hard smooth plastic so they couldn't climb the sides. The enclosed plastic kept the humidity up better so we had much better hatch rates. We also had the correct food from the start this time and a few dermested beetles in with them. There was no smell thanks to the beetles. There were times when it would get too humid though and we would get die off, which was fixed by opening the lid and letting it waft, but this led to males escaping cause they can jump and fly short distances. The colony was eventually fed off to a lot of creatures but we learned a lot more and expect to keep them long term the next time we get these.

-The first time we kept these we had them in a glass tank to prevent wall climbing and flying out which worked, but we had low hatch rates of the egg cases cause it was hard to keep the humidity up even in a mostly enclosed hatch box. The adults also were cannibalizing. At that time we were feeding a dry dog food and alfalfa pellet mix trying to avoid feeding to much protein. In the end we upped the protein by adding dry cat food to the mix as well and they slowly stopped cannibalizing. However the colony was so small at that point that we fed the rest off and decided to try again one day with a different set up.
