Animal Name: Unnamed - Smallest
Reference Code: TCBA-0003BA-T
Species: American Toad
Bufo americanus
Sex: Unknown
Death Date: 6/7/2020
Comments: -As I suspected this baby just wasn't right in the end. It never ate willingly even after offering a wide variety of live prey. It passed away on 6/7/2020 Though I'm glad the other two grew and did well enough to be released again.

- One of three american toads taken as tadpoles from a small puddle in Wharton New Jersey that was quickly drying up. We had been keeping an eye on the puddle and when it became clear that it would dry up before they could leg-out and leave we scooped up a few. Two days later the puddle dried up and all the remaining toad tadpoles expired. Sad to see but nature is cruel. We still have three of the five we originally scooped up. One was so small it got eaten by the biggest tadpole/toadlet and another just never started eating with us and expired. The remaining three are feeding well on dusted baby red runners and baby mealworms.

- Would like to deworm them if there is a way to do that for amphibians. Otherwise they remain in quarantine from all other animals. It's been almost a year since we got them in the summer of 2019 so we don't believe they are carrying anything else bad other than possible parasites.

- Summer of 2020 I released two of the three toads as two of them were doing fantastic and I felt they needed to go back to New Jersey right where i got them from. <3They have been quarantined the entire time. I am keeping the smallest because it is not doing well and I don't think it would have survived at all outside of captivity. This one needs to be hand fed because it doesn't go after moving bugs like normal toads do.
