| HOLY CRAP!!! no poo since march shed, possibly june shed.
this one required a good soapy scrub down of the cage cuz there was dried pee as well. |

events: snake struck @ me! i was using the pen to keep the rat distracted cuz it was at the wide open door trying to step out of the terrarium while the snake was approaching but then she saw my hand. fortunately my nervousness & momentary quick reflexes kicked in & i was able to jerk my hand away in the nick of time.
she finally saw the rat & struck & coiled but it was another butt grab, fortunately this time though the rats mouth was pressed to its own body during the coil.
11am: snake let go & attempted to swallow rat backwards but let go & found the head & began swallowing @ 11:02 & finished by 11:08.
man! she needs to stop grabbing the rats by their butts...she used to be good about getting them by their upper bodies/shoulder/head/face area.

events: BAD strike! grabbed rat by its butt, had to hold rats head back away from the snake so it couldnt bite her & gave it the tip of my pen to chomp on.snake let go @ 11:19, began swallowing @ 11:21 & finished by 11:28.
snake swallowed a few small pcs of bark that were stuck to the rat.

| note: due to the somewhat traumatic events of 5/25/11, i reduced the rat's size to pups for the time being. i will offer nyx rat pups for a few more feedings to try to build her confidence back up before trying her on small rats again.

events: rat got aggressive and went after the snake right off. i used a pen to pushed it to the other side of the cage.snake tried to stalk the rat but it saw her coming and jumped over then pen and lunged at her, it jumped on her but i pushed it off before it could bite her. had difficulty getting the rat out as it was turning on my hand.
the rat died a few days later, unknown reason same as others.
will try a rat pup next week. |

events: snake grabbed rat by the base of the tail but coiled fast enough to avoid a bite and ended up in a water dish, drowned the rat. uncoiled and dropped the rat in the water. searched for it for 5 minutes before i pushed it out of the water dish. snake felt the rat moving and coiled it again. snake tried to swallow the rat by its front legs/chest and after 2 minutes spit it out and searched for the rats head. finally found it and swallowed the rat without further incident. |

attempt #1: 11 am - snake showed interest but refused to strike. removed rat after 10 minutes.
attempt #2: 5:18pm - again showed interest but no strike. removed rat after 17 minutes.
rat looked sickly (was lethargic & somewhat wobbly)
attempt #3: 8:48 pm - discovered rat dying in the tank (it was laying on it's side twitching and taking 1 big breath every few seconds or so) .placed it in snake's terrarium over warm side. watched it until it finally stopped breathing at or around 9:43 pm. snake investigated the rat smelling it all over but then she went and curled up in the cool side hide box. left the rat in terrarium overnight.
7:30am next morning - rat was still there so i removed it and threw it out. will not try another feeding attempt until next thursday. |

events: BAD STRIKE! snake & rat had each other's faces in their mouths. i had to grab & hold rat's nose to keep it from biting down. after the snake ate the rat i did not notice any injury or damage to snake's eye/face but will keep an eye on the area. called breeder/friend - he said if the the snake had gotten hurt she would've stopped trying to kill the rat and definitely would not have eaten it. |

| after 6 days of continuous daily struggling with unstable temps and humidity i think i've finally found a temporary solution to the temps issue. im running a small space heater aimed at the terrarium until i can get a better u.t.h then the one im using now. only downside is the little heater is turning my room into an oven...yechk. im 5 months preggers so im not liking that one bit. but i gotta make sure my little girl is ok so she doesnt get sick before i can get the better u.t.h im looking into.
i think the new u.t.h will fix my humidity problem as well since the one im using now is just not powerful enough to create enough heat inside the terrarium to make the moist cypress mulch give off any moisture. ok so without further ado heres the most recent temps info date & time given.

| well. i fed her last night at 9 pm and she was a trooper, got an awesome grab and coil and was able to swallow the rat even though it was a bit bigger then i anticipated. the rat went from grabbed to completely swallowed in under 25 minutes.
