My Reptile Interests
|

I have had an interest in reptiles for as far back as I can remember. My parents have pictures of me at ages 3 and 4 years holding garter snakes that I would rescue from our cat. Come to think of it, had she not been so insistent on capturing and bringing home little snakes, I don't know what form or when my introduction to reptiles would have been. As cool as I think snakes are, I quickly discovered that I am a lizard person. Growing up, summer time was lizard catching season. Don't worry, I would also re-release them after a couple days. I was always bugging my mom for a chameleon, but never got one. I didn't get my first "domestic" (exotic) herp until 2006, and that was Kiwi, my leopard gecko. Through some online tinkering in late 2006 I ran across an article about bearded dragons and was very intruiged. After lots of research and debating with my fiance, I finally got my beardie. If not for my current living situation I would easily have more than one by now. This is love. Someday I would like to build Honey (my beardie) a really awesome custom enclosure. There is a part of me that wants to get an iguana, but I will probably never get one becuase I can already tell that my lifestyle isn't going to allow for prime iguana living.

Other Interests

I like to crochet and have recently started to practice crocheting stuffed animals. If I can turn out one nice enough I'd like to give it to my niece.

Music

I don't have a podcast, I don't play an insturment, or even have a favorite band really. I don't even have an iPod (I'm still on discman technology). I seem to have stopped acquiring music on a large scale after graduating from high school (2003). I like all different kinds of music, but have been in a bit of a Gorillaz phase lately.

If it's funny, I like it. If it's Eddie Izzard, I like it. If it's British humor, I like it. If it's mildly immature, I probably like it.

I'm in my final semester at HSU as an Elementary Education major. I'm hoping to get a good teaching job after finishing my credential program where I will ingrain a subconcious love of reptiles into the minds of young children. I probably won't write that on my resume though.
