Your snake is a ring necked snake: Diadophis punctatus. They can be hard to keep in captivity because they don't often take well to crickets and other easily accessible invertebrates as food. They are known to eat earthworms sometimes.

Awe, cute little guy. We used to save these gia all the time from drowning in our pool in florida. They are sweet little things, tho I don't remember any of them taking to captivity too well. At least not the ones we found. Good luck with him. I think they are ring necks right? They are common all over the us.
