Animal Name: Morticia
Reference Code: BW001
Species: Western Black Widow
Latrodectus hesperus
Sex: Female
Death Date: 12/28/2012
Comments: Latrodectus hesperus,Western Black Widow.

Morticia, our black widow. She is good sized and about three years old, so fairly elderly in black widow years. She may have a few more months to a year to go. No worries, we can always find a replacement... they aren't hard to find around here.

ETA: Morticia finally passed this late December.

Nice! I know males are only good for like 12-18 months or something, but I think I read that some females can go 3-4 years. They make great little pets. I buy the rectangular acrylic display cases for a couple bucks from The Container Store, toss in a small "branchy" stick and a couple of dried leaves, and they're good to go. Couple drops of water and a small cricket once a week, and that's it. Low maintenance and BEAUTIFUL. :) -p-
