Species: Dusky Pygmy Rattlesnake
Sistrurus miliarius barbouri
Sex: Unknown
Comments: learned something new today. Pigmycide
pigmy rattle snakes are known to cause self venomization and bite themseves under stress. I was relocating a pigmy from the yard. In a bucket. Left it for only a few minutes when I came back it had bitten and killed itself. The entire mid section bubbled up with venom and rotted away within an hour from the inside out. I contacted the snakegetters.com and they verified this is common for the pigmy to do this when stressed or restrained.. Interesting...
