Comments: Due to a long long battle with health issues from when we got her, we have no plans to breed her at this time. If we consider her healthy enough in the future this may change.

A little background on the issue - when we purchased her she was 51g, yet seemed very oddly large. After observing her for awhile she seemed more bloated than fat. She also refused to eat for weeks at a time and would take a few licks once a month. We took her to the vet suspecting impaction. She had an xray which was inconclusive. That visit we decided an enema and a b vitamin shot to stimulate appetite was in order. It changed nothing. She decided to lay a pair of eggs and subsequently calcium crashed (not a surprise since she wasn't eating), so she went back to the vet and we got some liquid calcium. The calcium problem was fixed but she still wasn't eating. At this point her tail was thinning noticeably but she still had a bloated looking abdomen. She went back to the vet. On a whim, the vet drew out some fluid from her abdomen and found she was bloated by fluid in her abdominal cavity and that it was due to an internal infection. Rather than wait for a potentially inconclusive analysis of the fluid (not to mention rather expensive) we decided to give a round of Baytril a shot first. She got three weeks of Baytril treatment. I had changed her tank to be a smaller 10 gallon, stuffed with cork and also provided a small hot spot of 85*. During the Baytril treatment, she lost nearly 8g of fluid in her abdomen and started eating on a weekly basis. She no longer looks bloated, but still has trouble with eating. She needs to utilize her hot spot after each meal in order to aid digestion. She refuses to take Benebac, but I still try on occasion.

As of Nov 30, 2013, she laid her second set of eggs with us. Other than one small spot of over calcification, they were perfect little gems of eggs. After this laying she still maintained a healthy weight and ate a large meal. She is on the road to recovery, but we would like to see her build nice calcium and fat reserves and have a relaxing year of healthiness before we ever pair her.

Hahah cuuuttteee! She looks like a double-stuffed Oreo, but with the cookie and cream colors reversed.
