Comments:	Cerastes cerastes was originally described by Linnaeus (1758) as Coluber cerastes. Four subspecies have been proposed, including the nominate form, Cerastes c. karlhartli from the Sinai peninsula and southeastern Egypt through Kordofan, Cerastes c. mutila from southwestern Algeria and adjacent Morocco, and Cerastes c. hoofieni from the southwestern corner of the Arabian Peninsula. That said, the two subspecies C. c. karlhartli and C. c. mutila are not universally recognized, and were synonymized with C. cerastes by McDiarmid et al. (1999). This adult female is drop-dead gorgeous, and is scheduled for her first attempt at breeding for 2016, after being in my collection for several years already. She came to me from Egypt in 2013.
