Animal Name: 1.0 CB13 Crotalus culminatus
Species: Neotropical Rattlesnake
Crotalus durissus culminatus
Sex: Male
Death Date: 11/13/2015
Comments: Crotalus culminatus was described as Crotalus durissus culminatus by Klauber (1952). Campbell & Lamar (2004) treated it as a subspecies of C. simus, before it was elevated to species status by Wüster et al. (2009).

C. culminatus inhabits the Pacific coast of Mexico, from Michoacan SE to the Isthmus of Tehuantepec. The type locality is "Hacienda ... El Sabino near Uruapan, Michoacan, Mexico."

This species is not all that commonly kept in captivity, so I was excited to obtain a pair of '13 juveniles from Brook Berntson in January 2014. They have since matured into beautiful young adults with a striking coloration and pattern. If all goes according to schedule, they will get their first shot at producing offspring in 2016.
