Animal Name: King
Species: Common Northern Boa
Boa constrictor imperator
Sex: Male
Death Date: 5/17/2014
Comments: I've decided to still place King here even though he has gone to the bridge. King was a rescued Hogg Island Boa. He had such severe rot that bone was visible in his face- we were looking at surgical reconstruction to rebuild it. He was so emaciated that at 6.5 feet long, he weighed only 5 pounds.

My vet tried to save him and I spent long hours with him. He was tube watered to avoid aspiration and force fed tiny prey, as he was much too sore to eat on his own (and no normal size food either).

King was only with me for a short time but he touched the hearts of my family, stole my soul, and brought everyone who saw him to tears. He was a wonderful individual and he fought very hard.

Many of the photos here will be distressing. I have chosen to place them here as a reminder of what is at stake. I do not think large boids should be easily available at pet stores. King is why. He suffered too much.

Even though he is gone he will always be loved here.

RIP King, we miss you more than words can even say.

He was not, he was dumped on someone in that condition. I offered to take him. I think that they don't belong in pet stores because individuals like King are usually impulse buys. They get too big, they eat too much, bite, etc and they get neglected. King was an extreme case but truly shows why huge snakes have no place in pet stores. Cute babies grow up.

How very, very sad; I take it he was a pet store rescue? At least he got to spend his last days with someone who cared for him which is more than many can say.

Thanks.. I would give about anything to have him back though, but I am thankful where he is he is no longer in pain. He was facing a long road, with probably more than one surgery and possibly being unable to eat on his own for the rest of his life. I would have done anything for him. He was a special individual.

Poor guy! At least he had a good friend in the end. May he rest in peace.
