Animal Name: 0.1 Gonionotophis capensis #2
Species: Cape File Snake
Mehelya capensis
Sex: Female
Death Date: 10/6/2015
Comments: File snakes are truly mysterious animals, and I have been fascinated by them for a long time. Because of their secretive nature, they are highly elusive animals. I've only ever seen two wild specimens, one in South Africa and one in Swaziland. They were previously considered members of the genus Mehelya, until Kelly et al. (2011) reassigned them to the genus Gonionotophis, as the exclusion of the file snakes rendered the latter paraphyletic.

I acquired this immaculate adult female in the Summer of 2015 as an addition to my adult pair. After taking some time to learn what makes them tick, I'm now finally shifting gears to give them a shot at producing offspring.
