Comments:	Boa constrictor "longicauda" are some of my absolutely favorite boas: not only are they gorgeous snakes, but they undergo a type of Cinderella-transformation that takes them from being relatively modest-looking neonates through some relatively significant color changes that really bring out a stark contrast between the black saddles and the underlying grayish, yellowish, or even whitish ground color. This subspecies was described very recently by Price and Russo (1991) on the basis of morphological characters and geographic isolation from populations of other subspecies. Morphologically, these snakes have a longer tail (the tail/total length ratio of 0.148 in the holotype is the longest documented for any member of this genus) and hemipenis, slightly fewer dorsal blotches (20-21, as opposed to 22 or more in B. c. imperator and Boa c. amarali), fewer midbody dorsal scale rows (up to 78, as opposed to 81 or more in B. c. constrictor and 86 or more in B. c. melanogaster), fewer ventral scales (223-247, as opposed to 246-252 in B. c. ortonii), more subcaudal scales (50-67, as opposed to 43-52 in B. c. amarali and 45-46 in Boa c. occidentalis), and different color patterns than all of the other forms.
