Comments: I found Gummy one morning, lying upside down on our bathroom floor. At first, I thought he was a slender salamander (which is why he's in a bowl of water in the photo above). Once I put on my glasses and had a closer look, though, I realized he was an alligator lizard (probably southern - that's what we seem to have most commonly around here). I suspect that he crawled into our home after having been attacked by one of the neighborhood cats, and at first I thought he was dead. But when I picked him up, one of his legs twitched, and I realized there was still some life in him!

We did our best to create a good environment for him to heal, and he was with us for a few months before he passed away. I'm still not sure what happened - everything seemed fine, but he started refusing food, and a few days later, he was gone.

He'll always be with us, though, in our memories and our hearts. <3 <3 <3
