Reference Code: TGE-01-2011
Species: Malaysian Red Bamboo Rat Snake
Oreocryptophis porphyracea laticincta
Sex: Unknown
Birthdate: 7/12/2011
Comments: The systematics of this group are a bit confusing, and have not yet been thoroughly investigated using molecular data. Schulz (1996) recognized seven subspecies, whereas Zhao & Adler (1993) only recognized three of these. They are part of the former Elaphe complex, which received a taxonomic overhaul by Utiger et al. (2002), and this genus was eventually designated as Oreocryptophis (Utiger et al. 2005), which stems from the Greek words “oros”, meaning mountain, “kryptos”, meaning hidden or secret, and “ophis”, i.e., "snake", alluding to its secretive habits.

After seeing these snakes available for many years at steep prices, I finally pulled the trigger in early 2010, and acquired a beautiful pair of juveniles from Dave Katz. In 2011, they produced their first clutch for me, which hatched on July 12th.

Sold to Ryan Blakley.
